It was about nine years ago. While doing household chores, I realized that the gold chain I was wearing around my neck was missing. For a moment, my heart skipped a beat because the chain was quite heavy and valuable.
In a panic, I felt around my neck, then looked around me, and searched the entire house. I even shook out my clothes thoroughly, thinking it might have broken or the clasp might have opened and gotten caught somewhere but there was no trace of the chain.
Finally, exhausted and disappointed, I sat down and after a short while, I noticed that the chain was actually still around my neck.
Even now, it’s hard to understand what actually happened that day? There was no sign of how it slipped away from the neck, nor how it returned. It disappeared without being noticed, and came back just as silently. Was it the mischief of some invisible being?
A somewhat similar incident happened a long time ago in Pakistan as well. While sewing clothes, the thread in the bobbin ran out, so I took it out and placed it on the machine. Then, when I picked up the required reel of thread and tried to grab the bobbin, it had disappeared from its place. Even though no one else was there besides me, and I couldn’t understand what was going on.
I even felt around the exact spot where I had placed the bobbin, but there was nothing there. If it had just been an optical illusion, a solid, physical object would still have had a presence, you would at least be able to feel it when touching it, but that wasn’t the case.
I took out another bobbin, and then saw that the first one was right there in the same place where I had left it, without the slightest difference.
Whatever it was, it was beyond understanding, even today the mind is left baffled.
