IMRAN KHAN, A MESSIAH OR …?

(Hafiz Muhammad Noman, Karachi)

From the very first day, we could hear that Imran Khan would be the next Prime Minister of Pakistan whereas many allegations were also leveled against him that USA, Pakistani secret agencies and other hands are supporting him as they all want to see him in power. Imran Khan either rejects these allegations or just laughs at them. Surely Imran Khan’s discussions or speeches are very attractive that people at every stage think that he is the real Messiah for their bright future.

After Imran Khan’s successful public gathering in Lahore around Minar-e-Pakistan, it was said that the gathering was the second largest in the history of Pakistan whereas Pakistani media also supported and gave full coverage to the gathering. Various figures were claimed relevant to the attendance of the public at the gathering and 6 lacs people’s attendance was considered to be the correct figure as a senior journalist from a private news channel claimed. It looks strange to think that while Imran Khan’s huge rally was accumulated around the Minar-e-Pakistan, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) rallied in support for the president Asif Ali Zardari and media despite MQM’s rally gave full coverage to Imran Khan amazingly! Also it was heard that PPP directed its local leaders to join or attend Imran Khan’s rally in abundance for terming the rally successful and surely it succeeded whereas PPP’s aim was to disgrace Nawaz Sharif concerning his public meeting at Bhaati Gate as compared to Imran’s rally.

Anyways, Imran Khan is today the beat of the nation’s hearts and every body is expecting that he will remedy their sorrows. Doubtless, Khan’s speeches give a new spirit to the people of Pakistan but can just speeches bring happiness for the nation? It is said that don’t say what you can’t do and Imran’s words conflict with his own deeds or practices unfortunately. If we go in the past, we can see how Imran Khan advanced in politics and who gave him shoulders to go forward! Unfortunately, every body forgets their benefactors or helpers and so did Imran Khan.

Nawaz Sharif allotted him a large piece of land to establish Shaukat Khanam Hospital in Jauhar Town whereas Nawaz Sharif himself laid the foundation stone of the hospital in 1992. When Imran Khan formed his own party Tehreek-e-Insaf in 1996, he pulled out the stone laid by Nawaz Sharif, forgetting his well-wisher whereas Mr. Sharif continued his nobility and kept serving for the completion of the hospital. When Pervez Musharraf took over the government in 1999, Imran Khan welcomed him with open arms. Gradually he was disheartened when he failed to be the Prime Minister of Pakistan in Musharraf’s regime and opposed the ex-general.

MQM Chief Altaf Hussein delivered a short speech so that Imran’s gathering could avail full coverage of the media whereas Chaudhry Shujaat, Altaf Hussein and other federal ministers’ happiness on successful rally of Imran Khan was elusive! Apart from these, various leaders from various political parties joined Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf in abundance and Imran Khan welcomed all of them without considering that very few of them were good politicians whereas a lot of them were corrupt leaders who were known for their notoriety. When Pervez Musharraf enforced Marshal Law in the country, Myan Azhar distributed sweets embracing Musharraf and now he is supposed to be an important leader in PTI. He announced to form Muslim League Q and started to dismember PMLN so that members in PMLQ could be increased. Why Imran Khan welcomed this sort of person in his party?! Similarly there are a lot of leaders whose backgrounds are filled with mud and joined PTI whereas Imran Khan welcomed all of them enthusiastically considering as it is his victory. Surely there are good politicians too as recently Shah Mehmood Qureshi has joined PTI which is definitely appreciable.

Anyhow, Imran Khan should seriously consider that he has just one chance to resolve nation’s issues and the nation is awake now whereas there are many efforts of Pakistani media behind this. He should avoid embracing already corrupt leaders and try to keep PTI clear and transparent from any filth. His bad decisions could endanger PTI’s future and the nation would not forgive him whom it trusts a lot! May Allah Almighty succeed him in all his positive intentions Aameen!
