DAUD KHEL, HEROIN ADDICTED DEATH TOLL HAS RISED TO 350

In the start of decade of 1980, when Russian forces had reached at the every nook and corner of Afghanistan and they devilry started to kill the civilians. Armed forces made their collective graves and destroyed their houses, at that time Afghanis had no to live on their mother homeland. So they compelled to migrate to neighbor countries. As a neighbor they also migrated to Pakistan. The UNHCR established refugee's camps at some places in Pakistan for them. They were given shelters in refugee's camps. The camps were made in Punjab, NWFP and Balochistan provinces. This area's which cultures, geographies and language matched with Afghanis. These areas were deserted, unpopulated, away from local populations and hilly also.

When Afghan refugees came to Pakistan they brought their full culture with them i.e. air firing at marriage ceremonies and also air firing at birth of son etc. At first all refugees bounded till camp's area but after two or three years of their migration they could move out side of camps. A cause of their looseness was idleness of management of camps. When they were free to move outside of camps, they started smuggling of Heroin, Chars, arms and Opium. Chars and Opium introduced already in Pakistan but Heroin was a new addiction. Because of residents of hilly areas Afghanis had no fear and no difficulties to travel in hilly frontiers between Pakistan and Afghanistan. So they smuggled all types of addictions from Afghanistan to Pakistan. While our police had not facilities to raid at those areas. Because police was not facilitated with vans, camels and donkeys to raid them. So that areas was out of reach of our police. And Afghan smugglers easily did their activities.

Kot Chandna Afghan refugee's camp is one of above said camps. Its refugees also smuggled drugs and arms. And play death-game with human's lives. Till 1984 Heroin addiction was known in some area. Daud Khel is the second biggest city of distt. Mianwali, which situated at the distance of 8 km from Kot Chandna. It effected badly by Heroin addiction. On this time there is one Heroin addicted person from every family. There are many old, young and under age addicted in city. And strength of victims is rising day by day. Due to Heroin addiction addicted wants money and for this they steal things and loot. So the cases of stolen and looting are increasing.

Daud Khel is an industrial city and some big production units are working there. Unfortunately its citizens always ignored to employee in local factories. So the major cause of victims is unemployment. That why the young men hit by Heroin addiction.

Approximately three years ago some young men of city organized an NGO named Young Inqalabi Tehreek. It worked fully anti narcotics and their movements were totally against smugglers. They informed police the secrete residencies of smugglers and made them arrested. That is to say they compelled police to take actions against smugglers. Many smugglers feared and apologized in front of people of city at the main chowk of city called Habib Bank Chowk. The workers of mentioned NGO made treatment of victims and tried to provide them employment. But after some time the worker of said NGO disgusted from police's misbehavior and release of accused on bails. Now the situation is same as past. The young persons are inclining to drugs. Every day, if not but after two or three days a victim of Heroin dies in city. Victim's death toll has risen to 350 including real brothers, son and father and close relatives.

Firstly the victims filled cigarettes with Heroin and smoked, then some in hale the smoke with straws of burning powder and now they inject Heroin's solution. They make solution with one gram Heroin, juice of one lemon and an injection of "A vil" and inject it in the vein with syringe. It is interested that some addicted are specialize for injection so they receive ten to twenty rupees for injection. Very cheep Heroin is available here because smugglers mix hair remover powder in Heroin. For buying cheep Heroin the victims come from long distance areas and other districts even from other provinces. Because of this the many addicted died here whose came for Heroin's intoxication and now their graves are in different grave yards of Daud Khel.

An other interesting thing is the victims whose smoke with straws they get a lair on upper side of their tongues. Then they cannot feel proper intoxication so they do many methods to remove it i.e. they rub the tablets of paracetamole on tongue, scratch with knife and blades also. According to victims that scratched lair is able to use secondly and have 80% intoxication.

Every newly appointed S. P. in Mianwali arranged open kecheries and promised to root out dugs but unfortunately no one fulfilled his promise. Because there are many black sheep in the police department which involved in smuggling. They take monthlies and promote smuggling. It is ill-luck of Daud Khel city that any politician did not try to root out the narcotics, while in every period of government must provincial and federal ministers represent from Mianwali.

Now occasionally police raid and arrests victims not smugglers, whose after two or three month’s imprisonment are released. Some of them recovered and healthy but maximum use drugs in jail. A packet of one gram Heroin which is soled Rs. 30 to 50 openly, is soled in jail Rs. 200 to 300. Many jail servants and employees are also involved in arrival of Heroin in jail. They get big bribe in money and thing and supply drugs to prisoners. Excluded this there are so many secrete methods to supply. In short the most Afghanis had gone back, camps are mostly empty but our society is surrounded by smugglers who are created by Afghanis. The Afghanis left but left behind heroin. We are burning in white fire and only honest police officials can save us.
