The Government and the People

(Abdul Rehman Meer, Islamabad)

When we pronounce the word ‘government’ there comes in our mind a system to control, to maintain, to protect, to unite, to prosper, to shelter, to console etc. Obviously our thinking and perception about the word government is absolutely right logically, politically, religiously and universally. A government is defined in a democratic state as; a government for the people, by the people and to be elected among the people. The philosophy behind this definition is just to establish a state or a country where man is the unit and men elected leaders are the rulers for a prescribed period of time. Whereas the elected government is bound under the constitutional orders and commands to use the wealth and facilities i.e. wages not luxury and extravagance.

This is necessary for a government to maintain everything equally and justly without any bias and prejudice for the well being of the every individual of the state. For this purpose the government needs to enhance the power of all the institutions to function within the state under the shadow of the constitution.

Pakistan is an Islamic state; according to the reality and history of the country. It was established to protect the rights of the Muslims of the subcontinent. All the human beings keep on struggling for their safety and rights everywhere in the world. This is not only the matter of the Muslims of the subcontinent but also throughout the world where different human generations have established safe heavens for them. Whoever they are; whatever their caste or color is; can be Muslims, Christians, Hindus, Buddhist etc must have independence and freedom to inhale breath without any tension.

Like there is a proper rules and regulation in a country or state, likewise there must be international law and order without any bias and difference to protect the humanity throughout the world. Religion, caste, color, and races must be kept aside in such cases. This is the only solution to eliminate the ongoing tension from the map of the world. Harmony and love can be generated by the human beings not by animals. So we must say that we are human beings. We are not meant for killing and brutalizing in the world.

Pakistan is a state where deterioration and disorder always create tension which leads to mass destruction. The earlier defined phrase seems alien to this part of the world. When we think about the religions and sects in our country, there seems no harmony and affection with each other. Even we are the followers of the same Quraan-e-Pak which emphasizes upon solidarity, brotherhood, equality, unity, love, cooperation etc. we cannot be called truly Muslims unless we behave like good human beings. We have to act like the Holy Prophet PBUH who is the proper embodiment for the Muslims. Today, we are Sunni, Shia, Bralvi, Ahel-e-Hadith, Deobandi etc. we all worship the same Allah Who is the owner of the world. We just read the Holy Quran but unfortunately we do not understand the beautiful lines of the Holy Book which tell us how to pass life in the world.

This is the time for the government as well as the people of Pakistan to understand Quraan and Ahadith to establish an exemplary country where there must not remain tensions like, crimes, killing, looting, fraud, injustice, lying, bribery, brutality etc. We have to follow the moral rules and principles of human behavior i.e. ethics which is practically found only in the developed countries. Why are they prosperous than us? Why are they united, cooperative, peaceful? The only reason is that they follow the moral rules and principles. They do not offer prayers, pay zakat, obey the commands of Allah but they follow the teachings of Quran just for worldly benefits.

Now is the time for the government of Pakistan to revitalize its powers and integrity. When we read the history of the world we can say that centuries ago the world was controlled by the Muslim rulers and the on-Muslims were quite impressed by their way of life and ruling behavior. For this purpose the government must at first empower its people as the people are the unit of nation to gain all the attributes of a prosperous country.

Pakistan is now a poly cultured state where the people act whatever they want to do. All the negative aspects are found among the people. We have been in severe sectarian tension for a long time. To some extent we have also been facing linguistic tensions and provincialism. A reason can be the fact that our governments could not bring a uniformed system into the country. Every five year governments are being changed but nothing optimistic to be seen for future. Every coming government abuses and blames the previous government for not being fair and just.

Domestic issues are worsening throughout the country. People seem pessimistic about their future. Daily life is totally disturbed everywhere. Poor becomes poorest and rich becomes richest. Law and order situation is being deteriorated even the public is reluctant to work peacefully. At last who is responsible? Indeed the elected government, it must protect and console the people by providing the basics of life.

When we talk about the youth of the nation; which are considered the back bone of any nations throughout the world. The government needs to create employment opportunities by using every resource. This is difficult but not impossible for any government to take stern stand against this manifesto.

If we have a glance on the problems faced by the people, we can find that most of the houses are being run out of electricity, gas, flour, and other daily utilities of life. That’s why crimes such as suicide, killing, fraud etc are increasing day by day. We cannot control crimes unless we uproot the root causes that are clearly seen on a bulk of our eye in the country.

Pakistan is a God gifted land where the government needs not to consider some other developed countries as role model. We have natural resources and men power. We need our own manifesto, discipline, rules and regulations. But unfortunately our governments have been mentally in the West, in Saudi, in Dubai, in China etc but physically functioned in Pakistan. To make Pakistan a prosperous and developed country the government must function mentally and physically in the country and must use our own resources. Never accept dictations which can only make a servant but not a master. Then Pakistan can also become a role model for the world in the coming decades. The government must not wait for tomorrow it must think about the future of the nation. Where are we standing and where are we going now? Is this the future to run the government by getting instructions from IMF? How much time will it take to pay debts? An ordinary man can answer that debt makes men slave nothing else. We prefer to be hungry rather than asking for alms and debt. This is the time for all Pakistanis to think about their future whether we will be independent or again subjugated for centuries.
