Democracy the phenomenon which have become an obsession for most of the segments of our political system.

But do we have democracy and do we need it If any person replies with a positive then I differ on both

In the Holy Quran ALLAH has said

------"People with knowledge and people without knowledge can’t be equal"

Even in America the greatest caretaker and supporter of democracy, an illiterate person can’t vote. However it’s surprising that in our country where more than half of the population almost 80 % is illiterate, cant read or write or understand what’s happening in the country or what’s going on but still they have right to vote!!!. They are taught just to hit a specific image on the ballot paper regardless of the person competing or his\her political record .the saddest part is that the other 20 % behaves in more or less the same manner. The problem is we do not accept the truth. The unspeakable truth is that we are being made fools since 1947. Our system is being exploited in the name of democracy and people are being provoked to hate each other on the basis of language, cast and religion. In Pakistan people have only one criterion to vote, LANGUAGE! If a person is Urdu speaking (Mohajir) Muttahida!! ,a Sindhi person has an ultimate affection toward PPP , a Punjabi man always rank Muslim League and if a man is Pathan he consider it his utmost responsibility to support ANP, this criteria remains true for most of the people if not all allowing room for some deviation or adjustments. Our people (Including you do and me) do not vote considering the abilities and achievements of a person. They only give support to our linguistic allegiance. The truth is we have a sense of insecurity and this insecurity is encashed in the form of vote by every Political party of the country. We do not accept that there is no democracy at all and was never there. Democracy has never suited us Muslims. Since the Caliphate rule we are suffering we can’t tolerate democracy ourselves because its not our custom, it is not our tradition it has no place in a our society where even our most intimate decisions like marriages and career choices are made by our elders or parents. We greatly respect and fulfill these decisions but then we say we have democracy, it is the west where the elders have no voice to overpower the youth but such behavior is intolerable for us or such democracy but we say we need democracy. It is a foreign intrusion and we have accepted it only because of one reason, we are obsessed with copying every western culture and in the fulfillment of this we have messed the whole thing and have made a humor of our political system. The truth is we never had democracy and we never wanted one. In all the political parties of Pakistan the decision making authority is concentrated in only one hand. The leaderships are transferred from father to son and so on. This practice is the essence of Kingship and not of democracy but still we say we have democracy. The truth is we only want our leader and after him or her, his son or daughter to occupy the throne, it is just that we don’t want to admit it. Democracy was never a good practice even in the United Nations. America has reserved a right to veto even a heavily voted resolution but still they are considered democratic. In our country after Mr. Wali Khan his son Asfandyar Wali took the chairmanship of ANP. After Mr.Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto his daughter Mrs. Bhutto and after her, her son Bilawal occupied the epic slot through a will, strictly contradictory to democracy but still we call ourselves the zealous supporters of democracy. If real democracy would have prevailed we would be deprived of great leaders like Mr. Asfandyar Wali and Mohtarma and who knows Mr. Bilawal but still we are adamant to have democracy. We should accept that democracy is not our cup of tea. It is time we should realize that democracy is a phenomenon or just merely a word to disillusion us and make an alibi of many our mistakes and the essence of kingship and following the rules of one respected person or our parent is in our blood.

On the ending note, some words of a wise person could be quoted

“A large number of people have a greater tendency to make mistakes.”

The time is ripe to refrain from these mistakes, mistakes that we have been committing and that too deliberately for the past half dozen decades.
