It Was September 6, 1965 When
India, Taking The Advantage Of Abysmal Night, Unleashed An Attack On Lahore,
Pakistan. She Was Planned To Have Breakfast In Lahore Gym Khana. Without Any
Formal Declaration Of War, Indian Armed Forces Were Encroaching Towards BRB
Canal. No One Knew What Was Going To Happen. The Entire World Was Eyeing On Two
Countries. Once Again It Was A Battle Between Believers & Non-Believers, Islam &
Anti-Islamic Forces And India & A Sanctuary Land Pakistan. Pakistan Army Had
Taken Up Arms For The Protection Of The Reverence And Solidarity Of Their
Country But They Were Not Alone On The Front. On One Hand, They Were Encircled
By The Prayers Of Hundreds And Thousands Of Mothers And Sisters Whereas On The
Other Hand Martyrs Of Badar Were Their Allies. Indian Armed Forces Faced Severe
Defeat On The Lahore Front And They Ran Away By Leaving Their Tanks, Guns And
Other Armaments. Later On It Targeted Qasur Front, But There Too, Situation Was
Same As Lahore. History Of Prowess, Dexterity And Bravery Was Being Written. No
Doubt It Had Been A Meritorious Victory.
Although Most Of The Battle Was Fought Between The Land Forces Of Both Countries
But Still The Services Of Air Force Are Unforgettable As The Squadron Leader
Muhammad Mehmood Alam Destroyed Five Fighters’ Air Craft Of Indian Air Force.
On September 7, Indian Army Started Intrusion Towards The Chawinda Sector Of
Sialkot. Here, After The World War II, Worst And The Biggest Battle Of Tanks Was
Fought. This Attack Was Nothing Else Than A Fiasco As The Undaunted And Fearless
Men Of Sialkot Repulsed The Indian Attack By Tying Bomb On Their Bodies. Our Men
Vanquished Four Tanks For Each Of Their Own And Compelled The Indian Army To Run
Away. Chawinda Was Converted Into The Graveyard Of These 600 Tanks. Pakistan Was
On Upper Hand Here Also. After The Cease-Fire When A GOC Was Asked How He
Overpowered Indian Army, Despite Of Small Number. He Replied; “If The Bravery
And Patriotism Was Purchasable Commodities, India Could Have Bought It Along
With Foreign Aid”.
Defense Day Reminds Us The Great Sacrifices That Were Made In Order To Save This
Sacred Piece Of Land. While Going Through The Incidence Of 1965, I Can
Deliberately State That This Marvelous Victory Was The Result Of Zeal, Fervor
And Unification Of Pakistani Nation. At That Time We Clearly Conveyed This
Message To Our Opponents That We Have Enough Courage To Shed Even Last Drop Of
Our Blood For The Sake Of Homeland.
Today’s Pakistan Is Many Times Stronger Than That Of 1965 In Terms Of Military
And Armaments. No Doubt We Have Made Much Progress From 1965 Onwards.
Improvement In Infrastructure, Increase In Literacy Rate, Women Empowerment,
Development Of Telecom And Banking Sector And Much More Development Point
Towards A Bright Future Of Pakistan. But This Apparent Development And Progress
Is Not Our Destination. We Have To Go Beyond That. We Are Not There Where We
Should Have Been. Recalling The Quote Of Quaid-E-Azam “We Have Acquired Pakistan
So That We Could Make It A Test Center Of Islam”. At Another Occasion, He
Further Stated That “Now, We Should Think Beyond The Boundaries Of Punjabi,
Sindhi And Balochi. We Are Nothing Else Other Than Pakistani. We Have To Work
For Pakistan”.
Referring To The Above Quotes I Want To Put A Question That, Are We Going
Towards The Right Direction? Are We Really Beyond The Boundaries Of
Sectarianism? Are Our Individual And Collaborative Struggle Directed Towards The
Prosperity Of Pakistan? Aren’t We In A Race To Raise To Raise Our Standard Of
Living Leaving Country And Patriotism Behind? If The Answer Is “Yes”, Then Sorry
To Say, We Have Strayed From The Destination, Stranded Somewhere In Between.
