Most of us consider Muslim women are oppressed and
not allowed to follow their heart. This is surely a myth. The 42 years
old Gisele Marie has broken the stereotypes and made history by becoming
Burka – clad guitarist.
Gisele Marie, the granddaughter of German Catholics, converted to Islam
a few months after her father’s demise in 2009. However, her change of
faith did not hinder her passion for music as she decided to front her
bothers heavy metal band “Spectrus” three years later.

According to Gisele, "People do not expect to see a Muslim woman who
uses a Burka, practices the religion properly and is a professional
guitarist who plays in a Heavy Metal band, so many people are shocked by
it. But other people are curious and find it interesting, and others
think that it is cool, but definitely, many people are shocked”.
Islam and Women
Islam is peaceful and balanced religion. There are certain limitations
confined for both men and women that are essential to follow. The
religious implications for Muslim men and women are for their own
betterment that can save them from the evil and make them closer to the
Creator. Women have a dignified place in Islam. They are given respect
and protection from evil eye through veils and Burka. Wearing Burka is
considered to be conservative by the Western world, as they believe that
Muslims want to hide their women in houses to make them do household and
restrict their social activities. This is certainly not the truth behind
the orders of veils.

Gisele Marie has proved all sorts of negative ideas behind wearing Burka
wrong. She observes Burka and plays guitars in a heavy metal band. She
has surely surprised the spectators all over the world through her
skills.
This is certainly a slap on so called “broad minded people” who believe
that freedom and liberty of women is to allow them wear shorter clothes
despite of letting them being professional in their respective career.

In a Nut Shell
Even though Marie might face criticism from Muslim scholars and notables
around the world, this female could be a game-changer for how the world
views Islam, and initiate a whole new debate for change.
