Pakistan-Afghanistan ill-Relations, From A Historical Perspective

(Shahzad Khan, Peshawar- Residing in Riyadh)

When Pakistan came into existence, Durand Line was inherited by Pakistan consequent to the agreement in British era between colonial British India & Amir Abdur Rahman Khan of Afghanistan. Afghanistan never accepted this Durand Line as International boarder and tried their best to disrupt the New State of Pakistan by playing cards with the help of India and USSR. They infuriated Pashtoon Nationalists against the state of Pakistan in two Provinces KPK and Balochistan. ANP and Pakhtunkhwa Millat Party were supported and funded by Afghans Govt with the help of India and USSR to separate two provinces of Pakistan.. They used 'Anti Punjab' Slogans and tried to dismantle Pakistan's territorial integrity.

When Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto became the Prime minister of Pakistan, he smelled the threat and ill well from Afghan side, which left him with no option but to design a defensive cum offensive strategy and involve Afghanistan in their internal problems so that they are pushed back from the tail of Pakistan. In the due course, Gulbadeen hikmat yaar, Ahmad Shah Masood were used. It was a reactionary policy of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto as Afghanistan's intentions against Pakistan were very aggressive. When Pakistan launched proxy war with Afghanistan, Afghanistan did the same by creating Al-Zulfiqar, a left wing militant wing to encounter Zia's Policy.

Facts that is noticeable, Afghanistan is the one which never accepted Pakistan with good will, rather it initiated a dirty filthy design against Pakistan as soon as Pakistan came into being. All that was received by Afghanistan in return, was a response of a state that was continuously teased by its neighbour.
