Fahad Mustafa responds to Harsha’s remarks on Waqar Younis

Fahad Mustafa slammed Indian commentator Harsha Bhogle for criticizing Waqar Younis in an statement. Harsha had demanded an apology from Waqar as well.

Mohammad Rizwan had prayed during the match between traditional rivals Pakistan and India. Commenting in a show after Pakistan’s historic victory, Waqar Younis commented on this. He said that Praying on middle of the Hindu crowed was the best thing done by Rizwan.

Shameful remarks #waqaryounis there is a large Muslim community in India. We have millions of Hindus living in Pakistan. Sport is sport, not a battle of religions. pic.twitter.com/jLgH0bdgAF

Waqar Younis’s statement went viral on social media. However most users called it ‘sectarianism’ and accused him of bringing religion into the game.

Harsha Bhogle also commented over it and said that Waqar’s words were “terrible”.

For a person of Waqar Younis' stature to say that watching Rizwan offering namaz in front of Hindus was very special to him, is one of the most disappointing things I have heard. A lot of us try hard to play such things down and talk up sport and to hear this is terrible.

According to Harsha, cricketers are the brand ambassadors of their sport, so they should be more responsible.

Pakistani actor Fahad Mustafa retweeted the comment, showed the Indian commentator the other side of the picture. He drew attention to the negative image of Muslims in Bollywood.

Its equally hard to see muslims being portrayed as terrorists in almost every Bollywood movie for the longest.. I can’t imagine how difficult and embarrassing it must be for muslims in india to watch themselves being ridiculed like that.#stophypocrisy https://t.co/hr8mdQJ4ci

Appreciating Rizwan’s performance of prayers during the game, Waqar apologized for his statement, calling his words “unintentional”.

He says in those passionate moments, I inadvertently utter some words that are not for hurting people’s feelings. He wrote in his tweet, I’m sorry about that, it was a mistake.
