Shahid Afridi and selection committee wanted to replace Babar Azam as captain, says PCB Chairman Sethi

Former Pakistani captain, Shahid Afridi, and his selection committee initially wanted to replace Babar Azam as the captain of the Men’s National Team, according to Najam Sethi, the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Management Committee. The interim selection committee, which was appointed by the PCB Management Committee for the home series against New Zealand earlier this year, consisted of Afridi as the interim chair, Abdul Razzaq, Rao Iftikhar Anjum, and Haroon Rashid as the convener.

However, Sethi revealed that the selectors changed their decision and decided to continue with Babar Azam as the skipper. Sethi emphasized that he takes advice from people whom he trusts and doesn’t make decisions like changing the captain on his own. He further stated that as soon as the selectors were appointed, they said there was no need to replace Babar Azam.

Afridi resigned from his post as interim chair after the series against New Zealand due to a lack of time for meetings. Haroon Rashid was later appointed as the chair of the Men’s National Selection Committee by the PCB and replaced Afridi.

The revelation of the selection committee’s initial decision to replace Babar Azam as the captain has raised questions among fans and cricket experts. However, the selectors’ decision to retain Babar Azam as the skipper shows their faith in his leadership and capabilities. It remains to be seen how Babar Azam performs as the captain in the upcoming matches, but fans can look forward to an exciting season of cricket ahead.
