Atal Pension Yojana Kya Hai?
Atal Pension Yojana (APY) is a government pension scheme launched in June 2015 by the Government of India. It was introduced in the Union Budget 2015-16 by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley. The scheme is managed by the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA).

- Low monthly contributions: You can start with just ₹42 per month at age 18 for a ₹1,000 pension
- Tax benefit: Contributions to APY are eligible for tax deduction under Section 80CCD(1). An additional deduction of ₹50,000 is available under Section 80CCD(1B). Over and above the ₹1.5 lakh limit under 80C

Online
- Visit npscra.nsdl.co.in or enps.nsdl.com.
- Click Subscriber Login.
- Enter your PRAN and password.
Bank internet banking
- Log in to your bank account.
- Go to the APY section.

Note: Your PRAN (Permanent Retirement Account Number) is the unique 12 digit number assigned to you when you registered. It is your APY account number. Keep it safe.
Atal Pension Yojana Apply Online Method
You can do Atal Pension Yojana apply online through your bank's internet banking or the NSDL portal.
Internet Banking
- Log in to your bank internet banking portal.
- Open government schemes section.
- Select Atal Pension Yojana.
- Enter your Aadhaar and mobile number.
- Fill in your details.
- Confirm the auto debit instruction.
- Submit.
- Your PRAN will be generated. It will be sent to your mobile number.
Through Bank Branch (Offline)
- Go to a bank branch. Or go to a post office where you have a savings account.
- Ask for the APY registration form.
- Fill the form
- Attach Aadhaar card photocopy.
- Submit the form.
- Contributions will start being auto-debited from your account.
Note: Keep sufficient balance in your account on the auto-debit date. If your account has insufficient funds four times in a row, your APY account may be deactivated.
Eligibility for Atal Pension Yojana
- Must be an Indian citizen
- Age must be between 18 and 40 years.
- Must have an active savings bank account or post office savings account
- Aadhaar and mobile number must be linked to the bank account.
- Income taxpayers are NOT eligible. If you are found to be a taxpayer after joining, your APY account will be closed and only the accumulated savings will be returned.
- NRIs (Non Resident Indians) are not eligible
Important Rules You Should Know
- You must contribute for at least 20 years.
- Early exit before age 60 is only allowed in exceptional cases (such as terminal illness or death). In normal cases, early exit means you get back only the contributions plus interest earned (not the guaranteed pension).
- Changing your pension slab is allowed once per year, between April 1 and March 31.
- You can transfer your APY account to another bank by visiting the new bank.
- You can change your nominee details at any time through your bank branch or internet banking.
