In a series of devastating Pakistan bus accidents, at least 36 people have lost their lives, with the casualties occurring in separate incidents in the northeast and southwest of the country.
The first accident, which occurred on the Makran Coastal Highway in Balochistan, resulted in the deaths of twelve individuals. This bus was carrying Shia pilgrims returning from Iran after participating in a religious commemoration. The vehicle veered off the road overnight, leading to a tragic crash. The provincial government reported that 32 people were injured, with many in critical condition. Four individuals remained trapped inside the coach, requiring a crane for their rescue.
The second incident took place in the Kahuta district of Punjab, where a bus en route to the Pakistan-administered disputed region of Kashmir plunged into a deep ravine. Initial reports from local police indicated seven injuries; however, it was later confirmed by doctors and government officials that all 24 passengers on board had died. Raja Moazzam, a rescue official, confirmed that most of the deceased had been identified.
The frequent occurrence of such accidents has drawn attention to Pakistan’s road safety issues, largely attributed to poor infrastructure. Leaders across the nation have expressed deep sorrow over the incidents, highlighting the urgent need for improved road safety measures.
