The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday asked the Parliament to pass legislation empowering it to announce a date for the general elections.
The demand was put forward by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikander Sultan Raja in separate letters he sent to National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervez Ashraf and Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani.
