The Land Of Suicide Bombers

(Wasif Malik, Lahore)

It’s about a year ago when Muhammad Alam, resident of Bilal colony Korangi Karachi discouraged his 18 years old son from getting into foe. Severely annoyed with the repeated forewarnings, Bilal; son of Muhammad Alam left his home. After leaving home, Bilal met Ibrahim Bengali who lived in the same colony as Bilal. Ibrahim was approximately 21 years old, who was also miffed at his mother’s advice of ‘find some work to win bread for the family’.

Then arises the sun for April 14, 2015 when Bilal and Ibrahim Bengali were shot dead along with three other companions. Commander Al-Qaida; Noor-ul-Hassan and Vice Commander; Usman were also reported to be dead in the same attack. According to Police, all of the 7 terrorist were just back from Afghanistan. Bilal and Ibrahim Bengali were recognized as suicide bombers who were also operating a factory where explosive materials and devices were being manufactured and assembled in a huge number. A hit list entailing the details of target personnel was also found with the dead terrorists. According to that list, various officials from law and enforcement agencies were the target of those brutal attackers.

Jobless Bilal and Ibrahim turned into suicide bombers in no matter of time. What does the rear view suggest who is the culprit? Is it Muhammad Alam, who tried to nip trouble into the bud or the old feeble mother of Ibrahim who asked the only brother of four sisters to find some work? Is it no more the duty of parents to guide their children on right or wrong? An old dame who goes door to door for dishwashing and mopping so that she may make the both ends meet thought that she would give rest to her tired bones as her son will grow up. That old maid asked her son to find a way of living out of her dream that one day her son will become the strongest pillar of her crumbling home.

It is like dime a dozen tale that army killed terrorist in an area, rangers seized this number of suicide bombers, police intervened and prevented the plan of terrorism is ‘x, y, z’ state. Every other day there is news about seizure of bomb manufacturing factories or explosive processing units. Terrorists along with their leaders are being hit every day yet they are alive with all their might and main culminating massacre at their desired places. None of the official, non-official building is safe. You are neither pardoned in mosque nor in the shopping center. Sense of insecurity is always high. No one is immune. Public is overwhelmed with the feeling of fear and anxiety. Sense of security is out of question for public where the rulers are unsafe with their security brigade. Government can never eradicate this ailment whatever agencies or resources it would deploy, unless it realizes that where this seed is being fertilized from.

Just imagine, you are looking helplessly at your children crying for food and your old mother coughing up blood in wait for medicines to cure her lung infection. You know that you are going to lose your loved ones merely due to shortage of a few currency papers. Now all of a sudden an anonymous friend shows up and gives you confidence. He assures you to be your financial support. Will you think over it again? Will you bother why is he helping you? No, your critical case scenario and your responsibilities towards your immediate family will keep you from giving it a second thought. This person will become a superhero for you; a divine help. You’ll not hesitate in giving even your life for him. This is exactly what Al-Qaida and Taliban are doing.

Shanty towns dwelling on major areas of Pakistan where dwellers are deprived of even minor basic needs are the pasturelands for this growing terrorism. This is the real market for terrorist organizations. If government really thinks of taking control over terrorism it should neuter these nurseries. Otherwise these terrorists would not vanish no matter how broad is the clearing operation.

Beaten by injustice, unemployment and poverty, when these innocents become terrorist no other body than state is responsible for it. Rulers ruling generation after generation are responsible for this deep-seated terrorism. Even after decades they are failed to realize the actual needs of their public. These monarchs must understand that needs of common Pakistani youth is different from those of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Hamza Shehbaz or Maryam Nawaz. Lord of the nation is he who holds himself responsible even for the death of a dog due to hunger. But in real case scenario these Bhuttos, Zardari and Shareefs are unable to feel the hunger pangs of people under their rule. No organization is making terrorist out of these common citizens except for government themselves.
