Lahore Zoo

The Lahore Zoo was initially an
aviary, which was donated by Lal Mahundra Ram. It grew slowly and steadily into
a full fledged zoo that consists of about 1381 animals at present. Out of the
total number of animals in the zoo at Lahore, there are 996 birds of about 82
species, 336 mammals of about 45 species and 49 reptiles. Management of Lahore

At first, the charge of the management of the zoo in Lahore was given to Lahore
Municipal Corporation. After 1923, Deputy Commissioner, Lahore took over the
management of the zoo. Livestock and Dairy Development Department was the third
in line to be responsible for the Lahore Zoo management. In 1982, the charge was
taken by the Wildlife & Parks Department. At present, Lahore Zoo is self-reliant

charring cross and opposite to the WAPDA House is the main gate of the Zoo.
