Karachi’s Noise Pollution Crisis: A Shared Responsibility

(Ayesha Almz, Karachi)

I am a student of Class VIII at Bahria College, Karachi. I would like to draw your attention to a growing concern that often goes unnoticed — noise pollution. In recent times, an increasing number of citizens, especially young motorcyclists, have been modifying their vehicles to produce excessive and disturbing sounds, contributing significantly to this issue.

These loud, unnecessary noises are more than just an annoyance. They pose real health risks, including hearing damage, sleep disorders, heightened stress levels, and even heart-related issues. The impact is not limited to those causing the noise; it affects children, the elderly, and everyday citizens going about their routines.

Unfortunately, this trend of seeking attention through disruptive sound has become common in several neighborhoods. It reflects a lack of awareness and social responsibility. Our city, already burdened with numerous challenges, does not need another preventable problem.

It is time for citizens to understand the consequences of such behavior and for authorities to take stricter action. Laws regarding vehicle modification and public noise levels must be enforced consistently. Awareness campaigns should also be launched to educate the public about the dangers of noise pollution.

Let us take a stand — as individuals and as a community — to restore peace to our city. Reducing noise pollution is not only a legal duty but a moral one. Karachi deserves to be a city where health and harmony can flourish.
