Pakistan’s parliamentary history witnessed a spiritually significant and memorable moment as Naat-e-Rasool ﷺ was recited in the Senate of Pakistan for the very first time following the Holy Quran’s Tilawat. The historic occasion took place during the Senate session held on May 13, 2026, marking the beginning of a new religious tradition in the Upper House.
The honor of presenting the inaugural Naat in the Senate was given to renowned Qari and Naat reciter Dr. Qari Ikramullah Mohsin, who delivered a heartfelt tribute in praise of the Holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. The atmosphere inside the House turned deeply reverential, with senators and attendees appreciating the initiative and describing it as a positive reflection of Islamic values within parliamentary proceedings.
The development came after the Senate unanimously approved a resolution earlier this week to include Naat recitation after the Quranic Tilawat at the start of Senate sessions. Wednesday’s sitting became the first practical implementation of that decision.
Dr. Qari Ikramullah Mohsin is widely recognized across Pakistan for his distinguished style of Quran recitation and Naat recitation. He currently serves as the official Qari of the Senate of Pakistan and has previously performed Tilawat at numerous national ceremonies, state functions, and official events attended by the Prime Minister and other dignitaries.
In acknowledgment of his religious and national contributions, the Government of Pakistan awarded Dr. Mohsin the prestigious civil honor “Tamgha-e-Imtiaz” in 2023. Religious scholars, parliamentarians, and members of the public have welcomed the introduction of Naat recitation in Senate proceedings, calling it a historic and commendable initiative. |
