What a misfortune? We have a
ruling elite, who is intellectually, morally and financially corrupt to the
core, selfish, incompetent and without vision. It has been looting and
plundering this country since 1947. Its only aim is to enrich themselves by
exploiting state resources in collaboration with bureaucracy ,cartels of
industrialists, big businessmen, stock brokers, bankers and land mafias etc. In
fact, they all are the ruling elite.
Pervez Musharraf, s rule, resulted into an unholy alliance between the two main
political parties to take turns in governing and thus protecting each other, s
corruption and misdeeds. During last five years of PPP,s misrule and massive
corruption, PML(N) neither protested in any meaningful way, nor has it initiated
any probe to investigate their mega corruption scandals after coming into power.
In all probability, now PPP in oppositionwill reciprocate during PML(N),s tenure
of governance. And democracy will keep on taking revenge from the people of
Pakistan in the name of protecting democracy and reconciliation.
Almost all major businesses like Sugar, Textile, Real Estate, Oil &Gas etc are
directly or indirectly owned and controlled by the ruling elite, and are run
like cartels and mafias. Recent additions are the dairy and milk industries.
Policies are made to benefit themselves and not the common man. Their strategy
is simple, accumulate the black money, issue amnesty schemes and make it white.
Take billions of rupees bank loans and once in power, get them written off. Has
there ever been any amnesty scheme for the poor, widows, disabled or the old
age? Is there any member of the ruling elite whose assets has declined due to
the poor economic conditions of the country?
How ironic is it that they invite investment from abroad, while their own
businesses, children, investment, palaces and assets are in foreign countries.
Pakistan for them is a colony to rule and plunder without impunity; not a
homeland. They have lost faith in it and will abandon it when nothing will be
left for them to loot. They will fly to the save heavens in the Middle East,
Europe, USA and Far East, God forbids, the time comes.
47% of our lawmakers of all assemblies did not pay income tax; 12% of them even
do not have national tax number (NTN). Majority ofover 23,900 candidates in 2013
elections were tax defaulters, yet they were allowed to contest elections and
many of them got elected. They do not declare their actual assets and the
declared assets are grossly under valued to avoid taxes. No law is applicable to
them. In fact they are the law. Almost all state functionaries and state
machinery are partners in crime and protect them.
Rhetoric that repeated elections will bring a change is nothing more than
amirage, afool,s paradise. Results of next elections are very clear. Be ready to
welcome the future rulers, Hamza, Bilawal, Moonis, Mariam, Bakhtawar and the
like. The salvation lies in replacing present ruling elite with honest,
competent, sincere and visionary leadership from amongst the people. This can
only be done by amending the electoral rules, having truly independent election
commission, biometric voting machines and above all educating the people to bar
the corrupt from entering the parliament.
There seems no possibility that present ruling elite will bring about the
required changes in the electoral system voluntarily. They have to be forced to
do it. Only option is a mass movement by the young generation spearheaded by
students of universities and colleges to educate the puplic through social,
print and electronic media, seminars, publicmeetings and ralliesetc culminating
in a peaceful mass protest in Islamabad. My generation has destroyed Pakistan.
Will the young generation save it ? If not, then enjoy the best revenge and
fruits of “ Lootocracy “ (Pakistani version of democracy) and the new generation
of royals.
