Geo Tv
(Hussnain arslan khan, karachi)
Allegations against ISI of
Pakistan to be involved in the attack on journalist, Hamid Mir, in Karachi are
causing pandemonium and uproar in and outside the country. Although the
allegation seems to be based on victim?s repeated statements and circulating
speculation, premature retaliatory action to ban the Geo transmissions, without
a proper investigation by a neutral judicial bench, is regrettable.
Running a smearing campaign to malign and defame each other may have long
lasting implication of harmful consequences. Conduciveness of dragging state's
institute against one segment of information media, needs to be avoided to have
a peaceful coexistence of both, in the best interest of the country. A reputable
and efficient security provider as well as a free and unbiased information
medium, are necessary to ensure national security and to inform the masses,
respectively.
The concerned government organization has shown the audacity to suggest that its
hands are clean and it was not involved in the attach but the victim does not
concur with this and had re-affirmed his claim from the hospital bed. As both
statements are neither sacramental nor ordained in heaven, let the judiciary
investigate, find the truth and suggest corrective measure to avoid repetition.
Rationally, the attack on the journalist may have multiple dimensions, including
robbery or an attempt to divert attention of the masses for a specific purpose,
but conspicuously it was not mend to kill the journalist as per his injuries.
Banning the Geo TV services is not an appropriate necessity at this juncture of
time. Outcome of the Judicial investigation against the FIR filed, may reveal
some insight of the incident and if proven that the victim's speculation and Geo
transmission were to damage the credibility of the security organization then
corrective measures be taken against the Geo services.
