After a long period of nine
years of dictatorship, a democratic government came into power nearly 18 months
ago. At that time, all the political leaders were very jubilant and united. The
Prime minister was elected unopposed. It seemed as these politicians have
learned something from the bitter experience of the past. But time proved that
this was a wrong assertion. The political forces began to down each other and at
several times risked the democracy during this short period. In the process they
showed their reluctance to pass the National Reconciliation Ordinance from the
National Assembly. This Ordnance had enabled the leaders of all major parties to
contest the election. As a result of this Ordinance PML( N ) Chief, Mian Nawaz
Sharif, his brother Shahbaz Sharif and President Zardari returned to Pakistan
and participated in the election. They both got privileges in the election but
restarted polarization .They touched the settled issues like NRO, which in fact,
relieved both these top politicians of the false cases. In order to let down
each other they opposed this and demanded for the list of NRO beneficiaries. The
list is there which includes a number of bigwigs and the uncertainty of the
present set up is in sight. I do not think that the democratic government will
be able to bear the shock and jerk of the repulsion and publishing of list of
NRO beneficiaries. It will engulf everything and there is a possibility of
another long undemocratic set up. The annulling of NRO will neither benefit the
country nor any politicians. It will create chaos and anarchy in the country as
it is difficult to prove the case in the court and recover the money. The
politicians have once again failed and created troubles for themselves and their
country. There is still time left for these politicians to think, be united and
serve the country in a better way.
We wish them good luck and better future.
