INDIAN POCKET FULL OF RYE

(Abid Latif, Islamabad)

Once upon a time a merchant in Baghdad during medieval times was murdered by the unknown assailant, the merchant being an emissary of the neighboring country was quite a man whose murder required the investigation.

The darogah (police chief) of city announced the reward and blood wit from the state to anyone assisting in the apprehension of the culprit, but to no avail. There lived a wood cutter on the banks of river Tigris, he while visiting the city for routine provisions saw an open congregation of darogah of Baghdad, asking help from people.
The wood cutter, though a pauper was a man of wits and instincts, he asked for the clothes of the murdered merchant, after examining the same for a while he said that the murderer is the minister ofgranary.

This created an uproar, the wood cutter said that all the pockets of merchant have rye in them, so granary was last place which he visited, if merchant’s fortune is found there than I may be rewarded, otherwise put me to the gallows. The wood cutter was rewarded as every bit of his presumptions was found to be true.
Presumptions are again taking over this part of the world, minus the wood cutter, as all the banyans along the rivers are already cut and the rye is also no more grown.
Indian policy makers have probably read this story and the related fables of Mahabharata, it is not only the China-Pakistan economic corridor which has disturbed the south bloc, it is actually the coming into prominence of Pakistan into world arena which has perturbed the strategic elite of India.

The economic corridor is actually the culminating super highway of the new silk route. How this recent posture of open manifestation of Indian hatred started? India was planning the comprehensive paralysis of Pakistan since early 90s.

The Pakistan day parade of 2015 was the point in time which created a panic in the Indian minds and they presumed that beyond this, Pakistan if allowed to proceed then India will never have a role in the region to play.

The visit of Chinese premier has furthered their worries which are to be wedged. This gyrated the need to upscale the threat perception of Pakistani strategic elite by demonstrating something much beyond the conventional.

The news was leaked about an actual operation which was conducted as a trial of KALI weapon system, through which 134 Pakistani soldiers were buried by an artificially created snow blizzard and glacier break up. This was the demonstration that India has mastered the use of microwave based DEW (direct energy weapons).

The other area where Indian DRDO, Bhabha complex, RAW and other organizations and scientific affiliates have reached is the excellence in the weaponised use of laser technology. This can be used from thousands of mile to convert and pulverize a mountain into mole. The cordial relations between India and Lithuania since 1985 have something to do with it.

These are not small developments; the vector of arms race in sub-continent has now changed. A new technological asymmetry is in the making. Compounded with water aggression and a new secret programme to control monsoon so that the jet streams of Pakistan are stolen and made to cause rain in India instead over Pakistan.
Pakistan is left with no option but to take few deep breaths and stockpotthe completesituation. The firing raids across LOC and working boundary is the signaling to create a perception of inviolability of border from Pakistan to Indian side but fairly assailable from Indian to Pakistani side.

Mr Modi’s recent assertions in Bangladesh is also not without a purpose, all these admissions , leaks and blatant assertions are made to induce Pakistani decision making elite into a response generated through fear.

The set pattern is upping the ante on the escalation ladder and buying the indian war rhetoric. The prudent response could be, isolating india by highlighting these shenanigans on all the world forums and platforms. The most important is to adopt the counter measures.

Now as the Indians are caught red handed in granary with pockets full of rye, let us not be shy of asking the darogha, whose principles of lofty human values are at the altar. The strategic partnership if fostered further will be deemed as the connivance in crimes of the saffron brigade.

From a waiver for NSG (nuclear supply group) to the role as asia pacific pivot or a member of BRICS,what india wants to demonstrate to the world. If you are low on ethics you cannot have your place in the comity of nations, what to talk of the ghost eating rye or the leering eyes of the wood cutter.
