Ever since we were children, the atmosphere around us
forced us to believe in ghosts. Even though we never saw one, the tales
and stories always made us afraid of the dark. It was only when we grew
up was when we actually saw these ghosts. They were all around us, but
not created by some external element, but by the evil within us.Here’s a
list of some extremely frightening ghosts that have lived around
Pakistan for decades.

1. Ghost schools
Approximately, without any exaggeration, there about 12,000 ghost
schools in Pakistan. Ghost schools can be best understood as schools
that were authorized from the government, were built, but never took
off. These schools have zero pupils but the salaries and funds are
extracted monthly. Almost 5000 of these are in Sindh, alone. |
|
2. Ghost hospitals
Much like the ghost schools, these hospitals, have been allotted by the
government, are paying salaries – but usually, have NO doctors to take
care of the patients. Only recently, was a ghost hospital exposed in
Khairpur, Sindh, that almost had a 50 million PKR budget allotted. |
|
3. Ghost NGOs
These ghost NGOs can be best understood as morally fake and nonexistent
altogether. These are usually set up by influential people who can
raise/acquire funds from the government in name for the NGO, but don’t
exist even on paper. These vary from children with fund-boxes on streets
to direct foreign transfers. |
|
4. Ghost officials
An independent study and investigation states that the government, in
the past, has portrayed ghost/fake jobs on its websites, which were
removed later on. Apart from those, these jobs include being recruited
for ghost schools, ghost offices and ghost hospitals. |
|
5. Ghost teachers
These teachers exist on paper, they are enrolled as educators for
schools that exist – even the children show up once in a while, only to
find out, the teacher is not present. Rural areas of Pakistan have been
hurt by such means since inception, especially Sindh and Baluchistan.

|
6. Ghost libraries
Imagine finding torn or ripped books covered with spiderwebs, yes,
that’s exactly what these ghost libraries on the government’s account
cater for. The librarians of low scale jobs keep extracting their
salaries but these libraries don’t exist when visited. Only broken doors
and scrimped walls are to read.

7. Ghost pensioners
According to a Senate Finance Committee meeting held in December, 2015,
there were almost 2.5 million ghost pensioners in the record books that
have been collecting pension payrolls off the government, with zero
backing to their jobs. Influence is a disease hard to get rid off in
Pakistan.
