We Shall Overcome!!

Ramazan is the time when people forget their worries and join in the festivities and celebration. Each year,Pakistanis desperately wait for this holy month and start planning their schedules weeks before the auspicious month even begins. The spiritual prepare themselves for more worship and adoration whereas the other half focuses more on the meals that they would savor during sehr and iftar. The month starts with a frivolous wave of high prices. The poor keep complaining availing no heed as usual, but the mediocre don't really seem to care, all because the month brings with itself a kind of happiness and blissfulness throughout the world.

But this time, mother nature had already planned something for the already hurt and pitiable Pakistani people in advance. First came the sport fixing scandal which not only angered the feelings of the countrymen but also saddened them over the shame which the Pakistani cricketers (the most loved ones included) had brought forth. God knows whether this allegation was true or not. Next came the deadliest Airblue plane crash which took away the lives of more than a hundred people. The mourning for the died of the plane crash was not over yet when the people were forced to face another turmoil-the floods. Up till now, according to the estimates of a local news channel the number of people died in this disaster is more than 1500!It would not be difficult to think that if the number of the died is so high than the number of affectees would be beyond our imagination. Above all of this, the government wasn't seen doing much for the miserable people in any way. However, it would be unfair not to mention the role played by the local people, the media and all the foreign help that was at least giving the victims enough to survive. But the story does not end here, there was one more thing left for the people to see, the bomb blasts in Lahore during the Yaum e Shahadat procession. The massacre killed almost 15 people and over 157 were injured. Another disaster.

It won't be hard to imagine that this year for Pakistanis and especially the auspicious month of ramazan of the year 2010 were the worst ever marked in history, filled with tragedies, sorrows and grief. No wonder why Eid didn't feel like Eid this year. Now lets just hope that our future generations do not fall victims to such incidents and that their Pakistan be filled with happiness and peace.
