Daily we see violence happening in every which way over women belonging to classes upper, middle or lower by the so-called superior men. One of the top violence occurring in our country is marital rape which is not reported to the law enforcing agencies as compared to other crimes. Being in an unhappy marriage facing husband’s abuses both sexually and mentally is considered as marital rape. Women in our country are told to be quiet and obey their husband’s violence because they are not as strong as them and they have to be ruled by them because it’s their destiny. They are oppressed by their husbands who in society act respectable and educated. Women who try to defend themselves and what to reject a relationship which is forced, are later not even accepted by their parents and family. Women try to suffer many times for the well being of their children and not to leave the house as their children are getting the roof under their father. Women due to all these circumstances either attempt suicide or depression takes upon their lives. Nikkah does not mean that if women said "Qabool hai” three times accepting a man as her husband can do whatever he wants. Islam considers women the most superior and it can never allow an ordinary man to do injustice or rape her, it’s a crime. Women are so superior in the eyes of Islam that they got the responsibility of bringing a new life to this world and nurturing them with love, protection and educating them so they will understand the worldly affairs and be kind-hearted to every human. Being married gives women a higher grade and gives lifetime security to the well being and shelter to a woman but this does not happen every time. Some men are mentally ill and they use their wives as a tool for their comfort. Now in this century, this issue is being discussed and women are much educated now that they know the difference between love and forced sex. Recently this issue is being raised in a drama serial “Ranjha Ranjha Kardi”. The girl felt herself in danger. She got afraid of her husband. Besides knowing her husband’s mental health is not right, it is still a crime. A few days back I got to know a girl named Naila who was a victim of a forced relationship with her husband who abused her for 9 years. Besides having three sons the relationship was going on in the same way. She was asked to stay with him as he was her husband and think about the future f your three kids. She finally rejected all the odds surrounding her and raised voice for her that's when I felt happy that yes women empowerment does exist and it can only be achieved by taking small steps. Many women are being brutally raped and beaten by their husbands, fathers, and brothers under the influence of a concept called "patriarchy" in which the society is ruled over by men and women are just objects. Women can be empowered only when they are heard carefully. They are empowered when they not rejected by deciding on their life safety. Women empowerment means equal rights like men. There should be a balance between the genders God has created. A man cannot do the work a woman can and vice versa. Giving respect ultimately solve the issues. Raising and nurturing children either son or daughter in a right and meaningful way will eventually make the world better. Educating girls can lead them to a life where they can stand for themselves and educate their children. Equality in all aspects is considered to be important, the empowerment that is now very much important is gender empowerment. Gender empowerment means accepting and valuing the choices and decisions of all genders should be highly favored on equal terms without any biases. This doesn’t mean that they will be same but this means that they will get equal rights and respect on every level. Different non-governmental organizations are working on the issue of marital abuse and how to empower women so they can lead and live their lives without the fear of being tortured and harmed. Women empowerment does not mean that you are employed, earning money and living independently, it means making the decision for yourself and raising voice for the wrong. Women empowerment is connected to the economic empowerment and it can be made better by taking the first step which is education. Empowering women can be achieved by arranging different workshops where self-esteem and confidence development should be taught. The government should take keen steps towards the betterment of women by protecting their rights by imposing laws. Marital abuse victims should be given protection and the criminals should be given punishment.
