Drug Abuse : A Myth Or A Reality ?

Drug is a substance that ,when absorbed into a living organism alters normal body functions.They are the chemicals that changes the way a person’s body works by altering emotions and thoughts.Drug abuse refers to the use of certain chemicals for the purpose of creating pleasurable effects on the brain.The problem has been increasing at an alarming rate since there are over 190 million drug users all around the world and most of the young adults under the age of 30 are addicted towards the drugs.If we talk about drug abuse then the first thing that comes in our mind is that the drug abuse is a myth or a reality ? And is drug abuse ethical or unethical ?

When it comes to drug abuse there are lot’s of people who tends to link drug abuse to a myth and says that it is in their religion and are cultural or traditional related but in reality drug abuse is for real and thousand of youngsters are addicted to the drugs.However continued use of drugs can lead to drug dependence which is a state of physical and mental dependence.The commonly abused drugs includes marijuana , cocaine , heroine and alcohol.The signs and symptoms are changes in appetite or sleep , Impaired coordination , pupils larger or smaller than usual , Sudden weight gain or weight loss, Unexplained anxiety , Lack of motivation and withdrawn and poor work and decline in performance. However these drug abuses do have an effect which includes Loss of coordination, poor judgement , distorted vision ,slowed reflexes and memory loss.

According to statistics 25 % youngsters and 5.8 % of the adult population is involved with drugs which is one of the reason why today’s generation is ruining their future.There are certain causes of drug abuses which includes unemployment , financial burdens, peer pressure, failure in exam and failure in relationship , depression and addiction.There are four routes of administration of drugs that includes oral , injection , snorting and smoking. For today’s generation drug is a symbol of upper class and they snorts on it to show off their lavish lifestyle and also due to peer pressure without realizing that how bad drugs are for their health and body.Sometimes in some situation you are not wrong but you get in wrong company who forces and influences you to take drugs which further makes you addict to the drugs.And if you don’t get drugs you are ought to be depressed and you can get suicidal thoughts too which shows how dangerous drugs are.There are so many cases where due to lack of drugs people contemplates suicide too. There are four categories of drug abuse which are narcotics,depressants, stimulants and hallucinogens.

It is not a myth but a reality and that people who are addicted to drugs needs hospitalization,behavior therapies and change in social environment as the treatment.It is not that you can’t prevent or control drug abuse.All you need is to have knowledge of causes of drug taking behavior, sources of illicit drugs,drug laws, treatment programs and community organizing skills.All I can say is you can save yourself from drug abuse by taking precautions because prevention is better than cure.By saving yourself you are also saving the environment and the society you are living in.
