In this holy month Muslims put more effort into the teaching of Islam, it is the month of self-improvement, heightened devotion, and worship. During this holy month Muslims fast, read Quran as much as they can and offer prayer to become closer to the Almighty. While Fasting Muslims have to avoid eating and drinking until the sunsets. Also, he who is fasting has to hold off his anger and all sort of immoral acts.

Some of us must be looking for remedies to overcome thirst and hunger while fasting. Muslims refrain from eating and drinking for a certain period from dawn till dusk. But in hours an average time of fasting is about 10-21 hours depending on where you are in the world. This article will suggest ways to help you overcome your hunger and thirst while fasting. Here are some tips to stay fasted and prevent hunger.

1. Firstly, your mind plays a very important role in making you feel hungry. If you keep thinking about the fact that you haven’t eaten for hours will obviously make you feel hungry. Instead of focusing on feeling hungry if you replace your negative thoughts with positive ones will help you reduce your hunger. If you replace the thought of hunger with the thought that you are going to have clear energy, fat loss, rejuvenation will make you want to fast as long as you can.
2. Distracting yourself is one of the most useful ways to learn control over your hunger. Keep yourself busy as much as you can. While fasting the more energy you invest in something the more hunger or thirst you feel so do something that requires less energy but a good distraction.
3. During suhoor eat food that keeps you hydrated for a long time. The food should be rich in proteins, carbohydrates, minerals, and vitamins such as eggs, milk, tomatoes, cucumber, watermelon, yougurt, fruits, oatmeal, etc. Having these meals during suhoor will keep you hydrated throughout the day and will help you overcome your hunger. Having these healthy meals will also help you lose weight.
4. During your fast whatever you do in your normal routine is considered as worshipping Allah. So take naps while fasting. It can help you forget that you’re hungry.
5. Use less amount of salt in your suhoor meal. Salty food can increase your body’s need for water. Whether of adding salt to your meal, it is preferable to add drops of lemon to your meal, It will also benefit you in losing fat as lemon is also known as the fat cutter. You can add lemon to your salad too.
6. Avoid eating a huge amount of spices and seasoning during suhoor. These spicy meals can trigger your hunger instead of reducing it. These spicy food absorb water as they are taken from the pharynx mouth and stomach causing dryness in your body and the feeling of thirst.
7. Try to avoid the sun and heat during fast and take a shower during the day to cool your body.

These are some ways to avoid hunger but let me also remind you the fact that the point of fasting is to feel hungry and thirsty, that is the true meaning of Ramadan. Feeling hungry and thirsty helps us train ourselves to sacrifices our desires and built Taqwa, and increase our spirituality. Just think, you are denying to eat something just because your God has told you to, even tough you are hungry. How many of us have denied obeying Allah openly?. It is the only worship that we can proudly claim to Allah that we have done it for him alone.
