The Greatest Poet of the East

Once there was a school student who came very late in the class, the teacher asked him why are you so late, a student gave a very intelligent answer he said Sir, Iqbal ( Prosperity/Success) always come late, this profound reply of the student left teacher completely surprised. That student was none other than our greatest poet of the east and philosopher Dr. Allama Muhammed Iqbal. Allama Iqbal became the outstanding man we know because of his creative genius and out-of-the-box thinking.

Born in Sialkot on 9th November 1877. He received his early education in Sialkot and Lahore & then went to England and Germany for higher studies and got his Ph.D. Degree. Iqbal was not only a prolific writer but he was also a Great Advocate indeed. He appeared in both civil and criminal cases before the Lahore High Court.

After the completion of this degree and returning from England in 1908 he started writing poetry in which he encouraged Muslims of Sub-Continent/ India to wake up from their sleep of ignorance. He was the first person to demand a Separate and free nation for the un-divided India. Through his poetry, he called the Muslims their past glory. Iqbal was not only a prolific writer but he was also a Great Advocate indeed. He appeared before the Lahore High Court in both civil and criminal matters. Iqbal was the first person also to urge another great Leader Muhammad Ali Jinnah to come back to Pakistan and fight for the cause of Muslims. For these reasons he is known as our National Poet, ‘Muffakir-e-Pakistan’ (The Thinker of Pakistan) and ‘Hakeem-ul-Ummat’ (The Sage of the Nation).

On December 29, 1930, It was Iqbal’s greatest ever creation which is known as “Two Nation Theory” which made a foundation for the Separate Nation for Muslims. The Two Nation Theory was an ideology of religious nationalism that originally influenced the Indian sub-continent following its Independence from the British Empire. According to this theory, Muslims and Hindus were two separate nations in every aspect, whether its religion, customs, belief, culture. Therefore from a moral and social point of view, Muslims should be able to have their own independent country.

Iqbal is also a writer of many notable books Bang-e-Dara (Call of The Marching Bell), Bal-e-Jibril (Wings of Gabriel), Zarb-e-Kaleem (Powerful); and Persian one includes Asrar-e-Khudi (Secrets of the Self). He also has literary works in English, such as books ‘The Development of Metaphysics in Persia’ and ‘Reconstruction of Religious Thoughts in Islam.

Iqbal’s motivated students and youngsters through his Notable Messages and poetry, including “Mohabbat Mujhey Un Jawano Se Hai, Sitaron Pe Dalte Hain jo Kamand”. (I have a love for those youngsters who pull stars down.) In the following verse, he also suggests youth to no to be fazed by hard times, “ Tundi Baad-e-mukhalif Sey Nah Ghabra Aye Uqaab, Yeh Tu Chalti Hai Tujhay Uncha Uranay Kay Liye”. (Don’t be frightened by these furious, violent winds, O Eagle! These blow only to make you fly Higher). In this verse, Iqbal conveys that dealing with hard times will only make you stronger and enhanced. His very famous verse “Khudi ko kar buland Itna Ke Har Taqdeer Se Pehle, Khuda Bande Se Khud Puche, Bata Teri Raza Kya Hai”.( Develop the self so that before every decree God Will ascertain from you: “What is your Wish?). in this verse Iqbal conveyed a message “Raise yourself to the level that even the luck will be in your side or God will be happy to give you whatever you want Which motivated students all across the Sub-Continent.

Iqbal also emphasizes the need of attaining education and information and applying that knowledge in our daily lives. According to him, education is what helps us comprehend life and our view of reality. “O wise men! it is good to have a thirst for knowledge.

But of what use is the knowledge that cannot apprehend reality?”
Through his poetry and philosophical works, Iqbal's message guides us in all our existence's crucial and necessary areas. It leads us to a better life and a better person by establishing qualities that are common among successful and happy people.

On 9th November Every Year Allam Iqbal’s Birthday is celebrated all over the world. In Pakistan, Especially Schools hold ceremonies and give tribute to this Great Hero And Poet of the Nation.
