If you enjoy watching horror movies but couldn’t able to find a good paranormal movie, this Turkish movie is the one. It came out in 2013, directed by Hassan karadacag, and is based on true events. Dabbe: the possession, is one of the scariest movies ever made in the Turkish industry. It is definitely going to give you some sleepless nights and make you question yourself if you do not believe in jinns or ghosts. Unfortunately, Dabbe is quite underrated, but I would definitely recommend it.
This movie is based on a documentary made by Doctor Ebru, a psychiatrist. She made this documentary for her classes to prove that exorcisms and possessions are not real, instead, they are all just a scam. Until she meets Faruk, a religious person, and an exorcist. Her first encounter with Faruk begins when she witnesses Faruk helping a woman who was cursed by an evil jinn. But she does not believe any of it even after witnessing the whole exorcism and thinks it was all planned. Later she meets with Faruk and challenges him to help her cousin Kubra who was possessed and had killed her husband on her wedding day. This is where the story arises when Doctor Ebru and Faruk go to Kubra’s village. She records everything from the beginning till the end of the exorcism.
At first, I thought this was the actual footage of the whole exorcism but, after doing some research on Google, it turns out that this movie is just made in a realistic manner which makes it scarier. The storyline of the movie is very interesting, which makes the audience's eyes glued to the screen from the start to the end of the movie. It is totally unlike those typical horror movies which have good-looking characters but poor storylines.
In the movie, the girl kubra is possessed by a female jinn who wants to kill her. While Faruk makes every effort to save the girl from the evil jinn, he also finds creepy things used for black magic and other nasty spells from their house. Doctor Ebru and Faruk do a lot of research regarding Kubra’s case, and finally, visit the cursed village where Ebru and Kubra grew up. They find some really disturbing dark secrets in the village regarding Kubra and Ebru’s fathers, which have made the whole village cursed, and also appear to be the reason for Kubra’s possession.
This movie builds up tension from the start to the end, which is by the way totally worth it. One of the things which make it more exciting is the climax which I am not going to spoil for you but I can bet that it is going to make your jaws drop. It emphasizes moreover Islamic religion. Faruk recites a lot of Quranic verses and duas to get rid of the evil jinn which makes the scenes look really terrifying. This movie is going to haunt you for weeks. The storyline, the actors, and the dialogues, everything is on point to scare the hell out of you. The major credit goes to the actors in this film. I recommend it for those who are in the search of a good paranormal movie, it is going to be one spine-chilling
Experience especially if you are watching this alone at night.
