Interview with Syed Imran Shah

Syed Imran Shah is known as Sami in the media industry. He is struggling actor & has been working in this field for 10 years.

When did you first know you wanted to become an actor?
10 years later I realized I wanted to start my career in acting field. I started my career in media as a model and continued it for 5 years then I leave that and started working as an actor.

What was the first show or drama you ever did?
I did my first show in 2002, it was a drama serial on PTV, named as ‘PATHAR KA SHORRWA’ I performed the lead character in this drama , it was the time in which only PTV was famous channel & every individual watch PTV.

What role would you love to play that you haven't yet?
I love comedy; I want to do a role in comedy side, haven’t yet because of my looks people prefer to give the role of criminal or villain.

Have you ever forgotten your lines, or a prop, or choreography during a performance? What happened?
No, this thing I never experience I never take the script during performance

What do you do in your leisure hours?
I spent my leisure hours at home, because of law and order situation is not suitable to go for an outing, I prefer to spend time with my family, offer Namaz & watch Television to update myself into the world.

Which actor inspired you the most?
Faisal Quraishi inspired me, he has done really good job. He is one of the most versatile actors of our country. He has marvelous acting skills that make him stand high among the crowd of many.

What you think the best part of your profession?
The best part of this profession is that I never became bored, every day I interact different people go different places.
What is something embarrassing or unexpected that happened to you during the shot?
Yes, there was some events happened that was unexpected during shooting. One day we were shooting the robbery scene suddenly bank security guards came and supposed us robbers and do firing on us. In the same way, one time we were shooting a kidnapping scene and suddenly real police came and arrest us that was embraced moment of my life

What you prefer acting in dramas or films? Why?
Obviously I prefer working on a drama. The reason behind this is the condition of our film industry.

How you look today’s Pakistani media?
If we talk about news side, the media create so much sensationalism for the sake of increase viewership. They proudly highlight their weaknesses; if we talk about western media they don’t highlight their weaknesses.

It has become a trend nowadays to make dramas on bold subjects. Do you think this should continue?
I don’t think our dramas are on a bold subject, I think our drama industry is gradually progressing; we create variety in our dramas , our dramas has charm which compels the people to watch Pakistani dramas rather than Indian dramas.

How much government support acting in Pakistan?
Government do not support acting in Pakistan

What is the scope of acting in our society for youth in the present situation?
There is so much scope of acting but we don’t have enough platforms to show their talent, we don’t have such type of organization to polish their skills.

What is your message to our youth who want to become an actor?
Pakistani Youth is very energetic; in my observation even Indian is nothing in front of Pakistani, where Pakistani goes them achieve their goals, but they should have positive attitudes.
