Importance of Annual Checkup

(Ghazal Jadoon, )

We are living in an era full of stress, dependence on junk food and sedentary lifestyle. The most popular exercise these days is the movement of fingers on computers and mobile phones. It has resulted in proliferation of diseases like obesity, diabetes, hypertension, heart disease and cancers. Most of these, if detected early, are quite manageable. However this is only possible if we keep a constant vigil on our body through regular preventive medical check-ups (preferably annual).

But, sadly enough, we don't want to spare time and money for our own health, whereas we are ready to spend thousands of rupees on the maintenance of our vehicles and machinery through periodic check-ups or annual maintenance contracts.

Why neglect our own selves? Either we feel indomitable that nothing can happen to us, or we are scared of facing the reality. Health check-ups require only few hours once a year and few thousand rupees and can help you in the early detection of disease resulting in proper management at lesser cost.

Preventive Care after all means stopping problems before them genninate.

A check-up can determine your present Health Status & serve as a benchmark in your medical history. No matter your age or gender, an evaluation includes screening of different parts of your body which include blood tests, x-ray, ultrasound, ECG, Echo, TMT, Mammography, BMD etc. It is even more important for women, who always neglect their health at the cost of their families and in whom a simple examination and a pap smear could detect Breast/Cervical Cancer at a very eartystage.

Early detection, disease prevention and life style improvement are important benefits of Preventive Checkups. At the same time it also helps in avoiding long-term medical costs. Remember - Preventive Check Up is the key to living, life. After all prevention is better than cure!
