A Bad Day- School Day

(Hamda Naz, Lahore)

Look, I am a living being, I love peace, and I want freedom… One day my belongings were going to unknown destination, I was anxious; the air around had bad smell in it. Suddenly, a child came near to me and thought,
“I should not come to school today, my health is not good as weather is inclement, but mom never listens to me, a bad day – school day.”

Assembly proceedings followed by the jingling school bell that cast gloom over the entire building, afterward students were busy in their routine class work. I am a part of the school building over years but I never smelt such a foul odour that suddenly spread around and heinous faces jumped the boundary wall, moved ahead toward the classes of innocent souls. Their dirty black boots aroused horror, that followed by merciless massacre of sinless little beings.

Among cries of other children the voice of that unfortunate child just faded away…after a bullet went through his soft body. My leaves were shedding because of severity of weather.

“It was unusual autumn of my life. Though my branches were bare and deserted, but sacrifice of those lush green leaves never went in vain.”

Now I am standing alone, people called me an old ruined tree, but I have a heart, which is dead with my children as no one sees my tears…

Listen! I am a living being, I have a heart and I want peace…
