FIFA’S Darkest Day

(Sami Mahin, Karachi)

FIFA's darkest day started at 6am when the elegant doors of the five-star Baur au Lac hotel overlooking Lake Zurich burst open and more than a dozen plain clothed officers from the Swiss federal police swept in. Seven top FIFA officials arrested in dawn raid on Wednesday. The officials are suspected to have received millions in paid bribes. FIFA vice president Jeffrey Webb among those detained after hotel raid. Criminal proceedings launched into award of 2018 and 2022 World Cups. Electronic data and documents also seized in raid on FIFA headquarters. Sepp Blatter FIFA’s President says he has not been charged by US authorities but concedes that former associates have been. But still Sepp Blatter won't postpone presidential vote. They are brazen, they are shameless, they are flagrant in their contempt for law. They twist the rules of the countries they visit, they manipulate, they conspire, they corrupt and diminish. Their leader is a tawdry, Machiavellian politico with the air of one who feels arrogantly insulated against society's rules and thus should be punished. But Of course Sepp Blatter is as hard to nail as Osama Bin Laden you can't take FIFA's president out with a bullet.
