The Hydroxycitric Acid (HCA)
CrapInternet continues to be bombarded with HCA miracle in Garcinia Cambogia.
From ‘their’ findings, they have claimed that the HCA extract in Garcinia
Cambogia is a powerful weight loss aid in two ways:
Appetite Suppression
In layman’s terms, serotonin is a neurotransmitter in your brain that makes you
feel good, and by increasing the amount of serotonin in your body, HCA can
improve your mood and suppress emotional eating during times of stress. The
claim is that HCA has shown a remarkable ability to increase body’s serotonin
levels, which is key to suppressing appetite.
Fat Blocking
In studies, HCA has been found to halt the fat-making process and also decrease
production of unhealthy cholesterol and due to its composition, Garcinia
Cambogia can inhibit Citrate Lyase — a key enzyme in your body that creates fat
from carbohydrates. Without Garcinia Cambogia, carbohydrates (sugars) that
aren’t immediately burned are stored as fat.
And Now the Truth
Both of the above claims do not have any significance and bearing on weight
loss. The production of these enzymes is minute and like all others, constitutes
just a fraction of the real deal. The pictures you see on the internet can
represent a good marketing strategy, but weight loss?, give me a break! I have
been working around weight loss since past two decades and as a biochemist and
endocrinologist, I can assure every reader here that there is NO MIRACLE in
weight loss. Simple reason: the body does not have mechanisms built around an
herb for weight loss.
