A Single Reform to United Nations Organization

(Noshin Bashir, Karachi)

The United Nations Member countries finances the United Nations programmes and events. This is done according to the economic competence of member states and their population index. The United Nations gets the direct finances from it's member states and the lost prpportion is contributed by permanent members of Security Council especially those required to carry out the UN peacekeeping operations. Undoubtedly the UN has contributed much better than the preceding League of the Nations and to perform better and with greater competence it is necessary to change UN finances.

The UN must stop taking direct funding from member states and should go with the public aid instead. This can be direct funding from public hands without the involvement of Sovereigns. It can be helpful in number of ways.

1)- It can help to drawdown the political pressure on the UN by any memberstate as to when there is no direct funding from memberstates then no question for the inclinations to any of the memberstates arises.

2)- The leadership of United Nations will be free to move in it's decisions irrepective of any financial mistrust regarding which Ban Ki Moon has been concerned in his most recent statements.

3)- It will also lessen the extra burden on he permanent members of the United Nations to pay in compensations at the behalf of poor countries.

4)- It will also enhance the public interests to UN policies.

5)- It will also cut down the US backing in UN operations.
