Abu Hurairah narrated that : Allah's Messenger said: If it were not that it would be a hardship on my Ummah, then I would have ordered you to delay Isha until the third of the night, or its half.

حَدَّثَنَا هَنَّادٌ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدَةُ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ، عَنْ سَعِيدٍ الْمَقْبُرِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ لَوْلَا أَنْ أَشُقَّ عَلَى أُمَّتِي لَأَمَرْتُهُمْ أَنْ يُؤَخِّرُوا الْعِشَاءَ إِلَى ثُلُثِ اللَّيْلِ أَوْ نِصْفِهِ . قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ وَفِي الْبَاب عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ،‏‏‏‏ وَجَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ،‏‏‏‏ وَأَبِي بَرْزَةَ،‏‏‏‏ وَابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ،‏‏‏‏ وَأَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ،‏‏‏‏ وَزَيْدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ،‏‏‏‏ وَابْنِ عُمَرَ. قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ حَدِيثُ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَهُوَ الَّذِي اخْتَارَهُ أَكْثَرُ أَهْلِ الْعِلْمِ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَالتَّابِعِينَ وَغَيْرِهِمْ رَأَوْا تَأْخِيرَ صَلَاةِ الْعِشَاءِ الْآخِرَةِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَبِهِ يَقُولُ أَحْمَدُ،‏‏‏‏ وَإِسْحَاقُ.

ابوہریرہ رضی الله عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ   نبی اکرم صلی الله علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”اگر میں اپنی امت پر دشوار نہ سمجھتا تو میں عشاء کو تہائی رات یا آدھی رات تک دیر کر کے پڑھنے کا حکم دیتا“ ۱؎۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں : ۱- ابوہریرہ رضی الله عنہ کی حدیث حسن صحیح ہے، ۲- اس باب میں جابر بن سمرہ، جابر بن عبداللہ، ابوبرزہ، ابن عباس، ابو سعید خدری، زید بن خالد اور ابن عمر رضی الله عنہم سے بھی احادیث آئی ہیں، ۳- اور اسی کو صحابہ کرام اور تابعین وغیرہم میں سے اکثر اہل علم نے پسند کیا ہے، ان کی رائے ہے کہ عشاء تاخیر سے پڑھی جائے، اور یہی احمد اور اسحاق بن راہویہ بھی کہتے ہیں۔
