حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ وَكِيعٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عِيسَى بْنُ يُونُسَ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ،‏‏‏‏ وَحَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَوْنٍ، أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْ ضَمْرَةَ بْنِ حَبِيبٍ، عَنْ شَدَّادِ بْنِ أَوْسٍ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ الْكَيِّسُ مَنْ دَانَ نَفْسَهُ وَعَمِلَ لِمَا بَعْدَ الْمَوْتِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَالْعَاجِزُ مَنْ أَتْبَعَ نَفْسَهُ هَوَاهَا وَتَمَنَّى عَلَى اللَّهِ ،‏‏‏‏ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ وَمَعْنَى قَوْلِهِ مَنْ دَانَ نَفْسَهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏يَقُولُ:‏‏‏‏ حَاسَبَ نَفْسَهُ فِي الدُّنْيَا قَبْلَ أَنْ يُحَاسَبَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَيُرْوَى عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَاسِبُوا أَنْفُسَكُمْ قَبْلَ أَنْ تُحَاسَبُوا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَتَزَيَّنُوا لِلْعَرْضِ الْأَكْبَرِ وَإِنَّمَا يَخِفُّ الْحِسَابُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ عَلَى مَنْ حَاسَبَ نَفْسَهُ فِي الدُّنْيَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَيُرْوَى عَنْ مَيْمُونِ بْنِ مِهْرَانَ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ لَا يَكُونُ الْعَبْدُ تَقِيًّا حَتَّى يُحَاسِبَ نَفْسَهُ كَمَا يُحَاسِبُ شَرِيكَهُ مِنْ أَيْنَ مَطْعَمُهُ وَمَلْبَسُهُ.

Urdu Translation

شداد بن اوس رضی الله عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ   نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”عقلمند وہ ہے جو اپنے نفس کو رام کر لے اور موت کے بعد کی زندگی کے لیے عمل کرے اور عاجز و بیوقوف وہ ہے جو اپنے نفس کو خواہشات پر لگا دے اور رحمت الٰہی کی آرزو رکھے“۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: ۱- یہ حدیث حسن ہے، ۲- اور «من دان نفسه» کا مطلب یہ ہے کہ وہ دنیا ہی میں اپنے نفس کا محاسبہ کر لے اس سے پہلے کہ قیامت کے روز اس کا محاسبہ کیا جائے، ۳- عمر بن خطاب رضی الله عنہ کہتے ہیں: اپنے نفس کا محاسبہ کرو قبل اس کے کہ تمہارا محاسبہ کیا جائے، اور «عرض الأكبر» ( آخرت کی پیشی ) کے لیے تدبیر کرو، اور جو شخص دنیا ہی میں اپنے نفس کا محاسبہ کرتا ہے قیامت کے روز اس پر حساب و کتاب آسان ہو گا، ۴- میمون بن مہران کہتے ہیں: بندہ متقی و پرہیزگار نہیں ہوتا یہاں تک کہ وہ اپنے نفس کا محاسبہ کرے جیسا کہ اپنے شریک سے محاسبہ کرتا ہے اور یہ خیال کرے کہ میرا کھانا اور لباس کہاں سے ہے۔

English Translation

Shaddad bin Aws narrated that the Prophet (s.a.w) said: The clever person ids the one who subjugates his soul, and works for what is after death. And the incapable is the one who follows his desires and merely hopes in Allah.
