Baab Mehdi Ka Bayan

حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُجْرٍ، أَخْبَرَنَا شَرِيكٌ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاق، عَنْ حَارِثَةَ بْنِ مُضَرِّبٍ، قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَتَيْنَا خَبَّابًا نَعُودُهُ وَقَدِ اكْتَوَى سَبْعَ كَيَّاتٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ لَقَدْ تَطَاوَلَ مَرَضِي، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَلَوْلَا أَنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ:‏‏‏‏ لَا تَمَنَّوْا الْمَوْتَ لَتَمَنَّيْتُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ يُؤْجَرُ الرَّجُلُ فِي نَفَقَتِهِ كُلِّهَا إِلَّا التُّرَابَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَوْ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ فِي الْبِنَاءِ ،‏‏‏‏ قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ.

Urdu Translation

حارثہ بن مضرب کہتے ہیں کہ   ہم خباب رضی الله عنہ کے پاس عیادت کرنے کے لیے آئے، انہوں نے اپنے بدن میں سات داغ لگوا رکھے تھے، انہوں نے کہا: یقیناً میرا مرض بہت لمبا ہو گیا ہے، اگر میں رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو یہ فرماتے نہ سنا ہوتا کہ ”موت کی تمنا نہ کرو“، تو میں ضرور اس کی تمنا کرتا، اور آپ نے فرمایا: ”آدمی کو ہر خرچ میں ثواب ملتا ہے سوائے مٹی میں خرچ کرنے کے“، یا فرمایا: ”گھر بنانے میں“ ۱؎۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: یہ حدیث حسن صحیح ہے۔

English Translation

Harithah bin Mudarrib said: We went to visit Khabbab who had himself cauterised in seven places on his body. He said: 'I have been ill for so long, and if it was not that I heard the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) saying: None of you should wish for death then I would have wished for it, and he said: A man is rewarded for [all of] his spending except for the dust - or he said - in the dust.
