حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الْقَطَّانُ، حَدَّثَنَا فِطْرُ بْنُ خَلِيفَةَ، حَدَّثَنِي مُنْذِرٌ وَهُوَ الثَّوْرِيُّ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ ابْنِ الْحَنَفِيَّةِ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ وُلِدَ لِي بَعْدَكَ أُسَمِّيهِ مُحَمَّدًا وَأُكَنِّيهِ بِكُنْيَتِكَ ؟ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ نَعَمْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ فَكَانَتْ رُخْصَةً لِي ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ.

Urdu Translation

علی بن ابی طالب رضی الله عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ   انہوں نے کہا: اللہ کے رسول! آپ کا کیا خیال ہے اگر آپ کے انتقال کے بعد میرے یہاں لڑکا پیدا ہو تو کیا میں اس کا نام محمد اور اس کی کنیت آپ کی کنیت پر رکھ سکتا ہوں؟ آپ نے فرمایا: ”ہاں“۔ ( ایسا کر سکتے ہو ) علی رضی الله عنہ کہتے ہیں: یہ صرف میرے لیے رخصت و اجازت تھی“۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: یہ حدیث صحیح ہے۔

English Translation

Narrated 'Ali bin Abi Talib: that he said: O Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)! If I have a son after you do you think I could name him your Kunyah? He said: Yes. So he said: So that was permitted for me.
