حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُوسَى، عَنْ إِسْرَائِيلَ بْنِ يُونُسَ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاق، عَنْ الْبَرَاءِ، قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ كَانَ أَصْحَابُ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا كَانَ الرَّجُلُ صَائِمًا فَحَضَرَ الْإِفْطَارُ فَنَامَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُفْطِرَ لَمْ يَأْكُلْ لَيْلَتَهُ وَلَا يَوْمَهُ حَتَّى يُمْسِيَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَإِنَّ قَيْسَ بْنَ صِرْمَةَ الْأَنْصَارِيَّ كَانَ صَائِمًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَلَمَّا حَضَرَ الْإِفْطَارُ أَتَى امْرَأَتَهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ هَلْ عِنْدَكِ طَعَامٌ ؟ قَالَتْ:‏‏‏‏ لَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَلَكِنْ أَنْطَلِقُ فَأَطْلُبُ لَكَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَكَانَ يَوْمَهُ يَعْمَلُ فَغَلَبَتْهُ عَيْنُهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَجَاءَتْهُ امْرَأَتُهُ فَلَمَّا رَأَتْهُ قَالَتْ خَيْبَةً لَكَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَلَمَّا انْتَصَفَ النَّهَارُ غُشِيَ عَلَيْهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَذَكَرَ ذَلِكَ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَنَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ أُحِلَّ لَكُمْ لَيْلَةَ الصِّيَامِ الرَّفَثُ إِلَى نِسَائِكُمْ سورة البقرة آية 187 فَفَرِحُوا بِهَا فَرَحًا شَدِيدًا وَكُلُوا وَاشْرَبُوا حَتَّى يَتَبَيَّنَ لَكُمُ الْخَيْطُ الأَبْيَضُ مِنَ الْخَيْطِ الأَسْوَدِ مِنَ الْفَجْرِ سورة البقرة آية 187 ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ.

Urdu Translation

براء بن عازب رضی الله عنہما کہتے ہیں کہ   شروع میں کے صحابہ کا طریقہ یہ تھا کہ جب کوئی آدمی روزہ رکھتا اور افطار کا وقت ہوتا اور افطار کرنے سے پہلے سو جاتا، تو پھر وہ ساری رات اور سارا دن نہ کھاتا یہاں تک کہ شام ہو جاتی۔ قیس بن صرمہ انصاری کا واقعہ ہے کہ وہ روزے سے تھے جب افطار کا وقت آیا تو وہ اپنی اہلیہ کے پاس آئے اور پوچھا کہ تمہارے پاس کچھ کھانے کو ہے؟ انہوں نے کہا: ہے تو نہیں، لیکن میں جاتی ہوں اور آپ کے لیے کہیں سے ڈھونڈھ لاتی ہوں، وہ دن بھر محنت مزدوری کرتے تھے اس لیے ان کی آنکھ لگ گئی۔ وہ لوٹ کر آئیں تو انہیں سوتا ہوا پایا، کہا: ہائے رے تمہاری محرومی و بدقسمتی۔ پھر جب دوپہر ہو گئی تو قیس پر غشی طاری ہو گئی، نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے یہ بات ذکر کی گئی تو اس وقت یہ آیت: «أحل لكم ليلة الصيام الرفث إلى نسائكم» ”روزے کی راتوں میں اپنی بیویوں سے ملنا تمہارے لیے حلال کیا گیا“ ( البقرہ: ۱۸۷ ) ، نازل ہوئی، لوگ اس آیت سے بہت خوش ہوئے۔ ( اس کے بعد یہ حکم نازل ہو گیا ) «وكلوا واشربوا حتى يتبين لكم الخيط الأبيض من الخيط الأسود من الفجر» تم کھاتے پیتے رہو یہاں تک کہ صبح کی سفید دھاری سیاہ دھاری سے ظاہر ہو جائے“ ( البقرہ: ۱۸۷ ) ۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: یہ حدیث حسن صحیح۔

English Translation

Narrated Al-Bara bin 'Azib: It was the custom among the Companions of Muhammad (ﷺ), that if any of them was fasting and the food was presented but he had slept before eating, he would not eat that night, nor the following day until the evening. Qais bin Sirmah Al-Ansari fasted and came to his wife at the time of Iftar, and said to her: 'No, but I will go and bring something for you.' He worked during the day, so his eyes (sleep) overcame him. Then his wife came, and when she saw him she said: 'You shall be disappointed.' About the middle of the next day he fainted. That was mentioned to the Prophet (ﷺ), so this Ayah was revealed: 'It is made lawful for you to have sexual relations with your women on the night of the fasts. So they were very happy about that. 'And eat and drink until the white thread (light) of dawn appears distinct to you from the black thread (of night). (2:187)'
