حَدَّثَنَا هَنَّادٌ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدَةُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاق، عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ، عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، عَنْ أُمِّهِ أُمِّ الْفَضْلِ، قَالَتْ:‏‏‏‏ خَرَجَ إِلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ عَاصِبٌ رَأْسَهُ فِي مَرَضِهِ فَصَلَّى الْمَغْرِبَ فَقَرَأَ بِ:‏‏‏‏ الْمُرْسَلَاتِ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَتْ:‏‏‏‏ فَمَا صَلَّاهَا بَعْدُ حَتَّى لَقِيَ اللَّهَ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ وَفِي الْبَاب عَنْ جُبَيْرِ بْنِ مُطْعِمٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَابْنِ عُمَرَ،‏‏‏‏ وَأَبِي أَيُّوبَ،‏‏‏‏ وَزَيْدِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ حَدِيثُ أُمِّ الْفَضْلِ حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَدْ رُوِيَ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ قَرَأَ فِي الْمَغْرِبِ ب:‏‏‏‏ الْأَعْرَافِ فِي الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ كِلْتَيْهِمَا وَرُوِيَ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ قَرَأَ فِي الْمَغْرِبِ ب:‏‏‏‏ الطُّورِ وَرُوِيَ عَنْ عُمَرَ أَنَّهُ كَتَبَ إِلَى أَبِي مُوسَى، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنِ اقْرَأْ فِي الْمَغْرِبِ بِقِصَارِ الْمُفَصَّلِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَرُوِيَ عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرٍ الصِّدِّيقِ أَنَّهُ قَرَأَ فِي الْمَغْرِبِ بِقِصَارِ الْمُفَصَّلِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ وَعَلَى هَذَا الْعَمَلُ عِنْدَ أَهْلِ الْعِلْمِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَبِهِ يَقُولُ:‏‏‏‏ ابْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ،‏‏‏‏ وَأَحْمَدُ،‏‏‏‏ وَإِسْحَاق، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وقَالَ الشافعي:‏‏‏‏ وَذَكَرَ عَنْ مَالِكٍ أَنَّهُ كَرِهَ أَنْ يُقْرَأَ فِي صَلَاةِ الْمَغْرِبِ بِالسُّوَرِ الطِّوَالِ نَحْوَ الطُّورِ وَ الْمُرْسَلَاتِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ الشافعي:‏‏‏‏ لَا أَكْرَهُ ذَلِكَ بَلْ أَسْتَحِبُّ أَنْ يُقْرَأَ بِهَذِهِ السُّوَرِ فِي صَلَاةِ الْمَغْرِبِ.

Urdu Translation

عبداللہ بن عباس رضی الله عنہما سے روایت ہے   ان کی ماں ام الفضل رضی الله عنہا کہتی ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی الله علیہ وسلم ہماری طرف اس حال میں نکلے کہ آپ بیماری میں اپنے سر پر پٹی باندھے ہوئے تھے، مغرب پڑھائی تو سورۂ ”مرسلات“ پڑھی، پھر اس کے بعد آپ نے یہ سورت نہیں پڑھی یہاں تک کہ آپ اللہ سے جا ملے ۱؎۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: ۱- ام الفضل کی حدیث حسن صحیح ہے، ۲- اس باب میں جبیر بن مطعم، ابن عمر، ابوایوب اور زید بن ثابت رضی الله عنہم سے بھی احادیث آئی ہیں، ۳- اور نبی اکرم صلی الله علیہ وسلم سے مروی ہے کہ آپ نے مغرب میں دونوں رکعتوں میں سورۃ الاعراف پڑھی، اور آپ سے یہ بھی مروی ہے کہ آپ نے مغرب میں سورۃ الطور پڑھی، ۵- عمر رضی الله عنہ سے مروی ہے کہ انہوں نے ابوموسیٰ رضی الله عنہ کو لکھا کہ تم مغرب میں «قصار مفصل» پڑھا کرو، ۶- اور ابوبکر صدیق رضی الله عنہ سے مروی ہے کہ وہ مغرب میں «قصار مفصل» پڑھتے تھے، ۷- اہل علم کا عمل اسی پر ہے۔ ابن مبارک، احمد اور اسحاق بن راہویہ بھی یہی کہتے ہیں، ۸- امام شافعی کہتے ہیں کہ امام مالک کے سلسلہ میں ذکر کیا گیا ہے کہ انہوں نے مغرب میں طور اور مرسلات جیسی لمبی سورتیں پڑھنے کو مکروہ جانا ہے۔ شافعی کہتے ہیں: لیکن میں مکروہ نہیں سمجھتا، بلکہ مغرب میں ان سورتوں کے پڑھے جانے کو مستحب سمجھتا ہوں۔

English Translation

Umm Al-Fadl narrated: Allah's Messenger came out to us with his head bandaged from his illness. He prayed Maghrib, reciting (Surat) Al-Mursalat. [She said:] He did not pray it again until he met Allah the Might and Sublime.
