`Abdullah bin `Abbas narrated: that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used [to teach them this supplication as he used] to teach them a Surat of the Quran: “O Allah, indeed, I seek refuge in you from the punishment of Hell, and from the punishment of the grave, and I seek refuge in You from the trial of the false Masih, and I seek refuge in You from the trial of living and dying. (Allāhumma innī a`ūdhu bika min `adhābi jahannam, wa min `adhābil-qabr, wa a`ūdhu bika min fitnatil-masīḥid-dajjāl, wa a`ūdhu bika min fitnatil-maḥyā wal-mamāt)”

حَدَّثَنَا الْأَنْصَارِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا مَعْنٌ، حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكٌ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ الْمَكِّيِّ، عَنْ طَاوُسٍ الْيَمَانِيِّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يُعَلِّمُهُمْ هَذَا الدُّعَاءَ كَمَا يُعَلِّمُهُمُ السُّورَةَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ:‏‏‏‏ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ عَذَابِ جَهَنَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَمِنْ عَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ فِتْنَةِ الْمَسِيحِ الدَّجَّالِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ فِتْنَةِ الْمَحْيَا وَالْمَمَاتِ . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ غَرِيبٌ.

عبداللہ بن عباس رضی الله عنہما سے روایت ہے کہ   رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم انہیں ( صحابہ کو ) یہ دعا سکھایا کرتے تھے جیسا کہ انہیں قرآن کی سورت سکھایا کرتے تھے: «اللهم إني أعوذ بك من عذاب جهنم ومن عذاب القبر وأعوذ بك من فتنة المسيح الدجال وأعوذ بك من فتنة المحيا والممات» ”اے اللہ! میں تیری پناہ چاہتا ہوں جہنم کے عذاب سے اور قبر کے عذاب سے اور میں تیری پناہ چاہتا ہوں مسیح دجال کے فتنہ سے، اور میں تیری پناہ چاہتا ہوں حیات و موت کے فتنے ( کشمکش ) سے“۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: یہ حدیث حسن صحیح غریب ہے۔
