Abu Hurairah narrated that the Messenger of Allah said: “None of you should say: ‘O Allah forgive me if You wish. O Allah have mercy on me if You wish.’ Let him be firm in asking, for there is none that can compel Him to do things.”

حَدَّثَنَا الْأَنْصَارِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا مَعْنٌ، حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكٌ، عَنِ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ، عَنِ الْأَعْرَجِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ لَا يَقُولُ أَحَدُكُمْ:‏‏‏‏ اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي إِنْ شِئْتَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏اللَّهُمَّ ارْحَمْنِي إِنْ شِئْتَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏لِيَعْزِمْ الْمَسْأَلَةَ فَإِنَّهُ لَا مُكْرِهَ لَهُ . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ هَذَا حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ.

ابوہریرہ رضی الله عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ   رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ” ( کوئی شخص دعا مانگے تو ) اس طرح نہ کہے: ”اے اللہ! تو چاہے تو ہمیں بخش دے، اے اللہ! تو چاہے تو ہم پر رحم فرما“ ۱؎ بلکہ زور دار طریقے سے مانگے، اس لیے کہ اللہ کو کوئی مجبور کرنے والا تو ہے نہیں ( کہ کہا جائے: اگر تو چاہے ) ، امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: یہ حدیث حسن صحیح ہے۔
