حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ، وَأَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ يَقُولُ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ:‏‏‏‏ أَنَا عِنْدَ ظَنِّ عَبْدِي بِي، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَأَنَا مَعَهُ حِينَ يَذْكُرُنِي، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَإِنْ ذَكَرَنِي فِي نَفْسِهِ ذَكَرْتُهُ فِي نَفْسِي، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَإِنْ ذَكَرَنِي فِي مَلَإٍ ذَكَرْتُهُ فِي مَلَإٍ خَيْرٍ مِنْهُمْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَإِنِ اقْتَرَبَ إِلَيَّ شِبْرًا اقْتَرَبْتُ مِنْهُ ذِرَاعًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَإِنِ اقْتَرَبَ إِلَيَّ ذِرَاعًا اقْتَرَبْتُ إِلَيْهِ بَاعًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَإِنْ أَتَانِي يَمْشِي أَتَيْتُهُ هَرْوَلَةً . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ هَذَا حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَيُرْوَى عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ فِي تَفْسِيرِ هَذَا الْحَدِيثِ:‏‏‏‏ مَنْ تَقَرَّبَ مِنِّي شِبْرًا تَقَرَّبْتُ مِنْهُ ذِرَاعًا يَعْنِي بِالْمَغْفِرَةِ وَالرَّحْمَةِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَهَكَذَا فَسَّرَ بَعْضُ أَهْلِ الْعِلْمِ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالُوا:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّمَا مَعْنَاهُ يَقُولُ:‏‏‏‏ إِذَا تَقَرَّبَ إِلَيَّ الْعَبْدُ بِطَاعَتِي وَمَا أَمَرْتُ أُسْرِعُ إِلَيْهِ بِمَغْفِرَتِي وَرَحْمَتِي.

Urdu Translation

ابوہریرہ رضی الله عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”اللہ تعالیٰ کہتا ہے: میں اپنے بندے کے میرے ساتھ گمان کے مطابق ہوتا ہوں ۱؎، جب وہ مجھے یاد کرتا ہے تو اس کے ساتھ ہوتا ہوں، اگر وہ مجھے اپنے دل میں یاد کرتا ہے تو میں بھی اسے جی میں یاد کرتا ہوں اور اگر وہ مجھے جماعت ( لوگوں ) میں یاد کرتا ہے تو میں اسے اس سے بہتر جماعت میں یاد کرتا ہوں ( یعنی فرشتوں میں ) اگر کوئی مجھ سے قریب ہونے کے لیے ایک بالشت آگے بڑھتا ہے تو اس سے قریب ہونے کے لیے میں ایک ہاتھ آگے بڑھتا ہوں، اور اگر کوئی میری طرف ایک ہاتھ آگے بڑھتا ہے تو میں اس کی طرف دو ہاتھ بڑھتا ہوں، اگر کوئی میری طرف چل کر آتا ہے تو میں اس کی طرف دوڑ کر آتا ہوں“۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: ۱- یہ حدیث حسن صحیح ہے، ۲- اس حدیث کی تفسیر میں اعمش سے مروی ہے کہ اللہ نے یہ جو فرمایا ہے کہ ”جو شخص میری طرف ایک بالشت بڑھتا ہے میں اس کی طرف ایک ہاتھ بڑھتا ہوں“، اس سے مراد یہ ہے کہ میں اپنی رحمت و مغفرت کا معاملہ اس کے ساتھ کرتا ہوں، ۳- اور اسی طرح بعض اہل علم نے اس حدیث کی تفسیر یہ کی ہے کہ اس سے مراد جب بندہ میری اطاعت اور میرے مامورات پر عمل کر کے میری قربت حاصل کرنا چاہتا ہے تو میں اپنی رحمت و مغفرت لے کر اس کی طرف تیزی سے لپکتا ہوں۔

English Translation

Abu Hurairah [may Allah be pleased with him] narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Allah, the Most High said: ‘I am as My slave thinks of Me, and I am with him when he remembers Me. If he remembers Me to himself, I remember him to Myself, and if he remembers Me in a gathering, I remember him in a gathering better than that. And if he seeks to draw nearer to Me by a hand span, I draw nearer to him by a forearm’s length, and if he comes to Me by a forearm’s length, I draw nearer to him by an arm’s length. And if he comes to Me walking, I come to him quickly.’”
