حَدَّثَنَا هَنَّادٌ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مُرَّةَ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ الْجَزَّارِ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ، قَالَتْ:‏‏‏‏ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُوتِرُ بِثَلَاثَ عَشْرَةَ رَكْعَةً فَلَمَّا كَبِرَ وَضَعُفَ أَوْتَرَ بِسَبْعٍ . قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ وَفِي الْبَاب عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ حَدِيثُ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَدْ رُوِيَ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْوَتْرُ بِثَلَاثَ عَشْرَةَ وَإِحْدَى عَشْرَةَ وَتِسْعٍ وَسَبْعٍ وَخَمْسٍ وَثَلَاثٍ وَوَاحِدَةٍ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِسْحَاق بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ مَعْنَى مَا رُوِيَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يُوتِرُ بِثَلَاثَ عَشْرَةَ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّمَا مَعْنَاهُ أَنَّهُ كَانَ يُصَلِّي مِنَ اللَّيْلِ ثَلَاثَ عَشْرَةَ رَكْعَةً مَعَ الْوِتْرِ فَنُسِبَتْ صَلَاةُ اللَّيْلِ إِلَى الْوِتْرِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَرَوَى فِي ذَلِكَ حَدِيثًا عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَاحْتَجَّ بِمَا رُوِيَ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنَّهُ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَوْتِرُوا يَا أَهْلَ الْقُرْآنِ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّمَا عَنَى بِهِ قِيَامَ اللَّيْلِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏يَقُولُ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّمَا قِيَامُ اللَّيْلِ عَلَى أَصْحَابِ الْقُرْآنِ

Urdu Translation

ام المؤمنین ام سلمہ رضی الله عنہا کہتی ہیں   نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم وتر تیرہ رکعت پڑھتے تھے لیکن جب آپ عمر رسیدہ اور کمزور ہو گئے تو سات رکعت پڑھنے لگے۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: ۱- ام سلمہ رضی الله عنہا کی حدیث حسن ہے، ۲- اس باب میں عائشہ رضی الله عنہا سے بھی روایت ہے۔ ۳- نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے وتر تیرہ، گیارہ، نو، سات، پانچ، تین اور ایک سب مروی ہیں، ۴- اسحاق بن ابراہیم ( ابن راہویہ ) کہتے ہیں: یہ جو روایت ہے کہ نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم وتر تیرہ رکعت پڑھتے تھے، اس کا مطلب یہ ہے کہ آپ تہجد ( قیام اللیل ) وتر کے ساتھ تیرہ رکعت پڑھتے تھے، تو اس میں قیام اللیل ( تہجد ) کو بھی وتر کا نام دے دیا گیا ہے، انہوں نے اس سلسلے میں عائشہ رضی الله عنہا سے ایک حدیث بھی روایت کی ہے اور نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے فرمان ”اے اہل قرآن! وتر پڑھا کرو“ سے بھی دلیل لی ہے۔ ابن راہویہ کہتے ہیں کہ آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے اس سے قیام اللیل مراد لی ہے، اور قیام اللیل صرف قرآن کے ماننے والوں پر ہے ( نہ کہ دوسرے مذاہب والوں پر ) ۔

English Translation

Umm Salamah narrated: The Prophet would perform Witr with thirteen [Rak'ah]. When he was older and became weak he performed Witr with seven.
