حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكُ بْنُ أَنَسٍ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ عُمَرَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ، قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ كُنْتُ أَمْشِي مَعَ ابْنِ عُمَرَ فِي سَفَرٍ فَتَخَلَّفْتُ عَنْهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَيْنَ كُنْتَ ؟ فَقُلْتُ:‏‏‏‏ أَوْتَرْتُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَلَيْسَ لَكَ فِي رَسُولِ اللَّهِ أُسْوَةٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُوتِرُ عَلَى رَاحِلَتِهِ . قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ وَفِي الْبَاب عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ حَدِيثُ ابْنِ عُمَرَ حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَدْ ذَهَبَ بَعْضُ أَهْلِ الْعِلْمِ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَغَيْرِهِمْ إِلَى هَذَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَرَأَوْا أَنْ يُوتِرَ الرَّجُلُ عَلَى رَاحِلَتِهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَبِهِ يَقُولُ الشافعي،‏‏‏‏ وَأَحْمَدُ،‏‏‏‏ وَإِسْحَاق، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وقَالَ بَعْضُ أَهْلِ الْعِلْمِ:‏‏‏‏ لَا يُوتِرُ الرَّجُلُ عَلَى الرَّاحِلَةِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَإِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يُوتِرَ نَزَلَ فَأَوْتَرَ عَلَى الْأَرْضِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَهُوَ قَوْلُ بَعْضِ أَهْلِ الْكُوفَةِ.

Urdu Translation

سعید بن یسار کہتے ہیں کہ   میں ایک سفر میں ابن عمر رضی الله عنہما کے ساتھ چل رہا تھا، میں ان سے پیچھے رہ گیا، تو انہوں نے پوچھا: تم کہاں رہ گئے تھے؟ میں نے کہا: میں وتر پڑھ رہا تھا، انہوں نے کہا: کیا رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی ذات میں تمہارے لیے اسوہ نہیں؟ میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو تو اپنی سواری ہی پر وتر پڑھتے دیکھا ہے۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: ۱- ابن عمر رضی الله عنہما کی حدیث حسن صحیح ہے، ۲- اس باب میں ابن عباس رضی الله عنہما سے بھی روایت ہے، ۳- صحابہ کرام وغیرہم میں سے بعض اہل علم اسی طرف گئے ہیں، ان کا خیال ہے کہ آدمی اپنی سواری پر وتر پڑھ سکتا ہے۔ اور یہی شافعی، احمد، اور اسحاق بن راہویہ بھی کہتے ہیں، ۴- اور بعض اہل علم کہتے ہیں کہ آدمی سواری پر وتر نہ پڑھے، جب وہ وتر کا ارادہ کرے تو اسے اتر کر زمین پر پڑھے۔ یہ بعض اہل کوفہ کا قول ہے ۱؎۔

English Translation

Sa'eed bin Yasar narrated: I was with Ibn Umar on a journey and I fell behind him. He said: 'Where were you?' I said: 'I prayed Al-Witr.' He said: 'Is there not a good exampled for you in Allah's Messenger? I saw Allah's Messenger performing Al-Witr on his mount.'
