حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ سُلَيْمٍ، عَنْ أَبِي بُسْرَةَ الْغِفَارِيِّ، عَنْ الْبَرَاءِ بْنِ عَازِبٍ، قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ صَحِبْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ثَمَانِيَةَ عَشَرَ شَهْرَا فَمَا رَأَيْتُهُ تَرَكَ الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ إِذَا زَاغَتِ الشَّمْسُ قَبْلَ الظُّهْرِ . قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ وَفِي الْبَاب عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ. قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ حَدِيثُ الْبَرَاءِ حَدِيثٌ غَرِيبٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ وَسَأَلْتُ مُحَمَّدًا عَنْهُ فَلَمْ يَعْرِفْهُ إِلَّا مِنْ حَدِيثِ اللَّيْثِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَلَمْ يَعْرِفْ اسْمَ أَبِي بُسْرَةَ الْغِفَارِيِّ وَرَآهُ حَسَنًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَرُوِي عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ لَا يَتَطَوَّعُ فِي السَّفَرِ قَبْلَ الصَّلَاةِ وَلَا بَعْدَهَا وَرُوِيَ عَنْهُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَتَطَوَّعُ فِي السَّفَرِ ثُمَّ اخْتَلَفَ أَهْلُ الْعِلْمِ بَعْدَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَرَأَى بَعْضُ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ يَتَطَوَّعَ الرَّجُلُ فِي السَّفَرِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَبِهِ يَقُولُ:‏‏‏‏ أَحْمَدُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَإِسْحَاق، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَلَمْ تَرَ طَائِفَةٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْعِلْمِ أَنْ يُصَلَّى قَبْلَهَا وَلَا بَعْدَهَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَمَعْنَى مَنْ لَمْ يَتَطَوَّعْ فِي السَّفَرِ قَبُولُ الرُّخْصَةِ وَمَنْ تَطَوَّعَ فَلَهُ فِي ذَلِكَ فَضْلٌ كَثِيرٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَهُوَ قَوْلُ أَكْثَرِ أَهْلِ الْعِلْمِ يَخْتَارُونَ التَّطَوُّعَ فِي السَّفَرِ.

Urdu Translation

براء بن عازب رضی الله عنہما کہتے ہیں کہ   میں رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے ساتھ اٹھارہ مہینے رہا۔ لیکن میں نے سورج ڈھلنے کے بعد ظہر سے پہلے کی دونوں رکعتیں کبھی بھی آپ کو چھوڑتے نہیں دیکھا۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: ۱- براء رضی الله عنہ کی حدیث غریب ہے، ۲- میں نے محمد بن اسماعیل بخاری سے اس کے بارے میں پوچھا تو وہ اسے صرف لیث بن سعد ہی کی روایت سے جان سکے اور وہ ابوبسرہ غفاری کا نام نہیں جان سکے اور انہوں نے اسے حسن جانا ۱؎، ۳- اس باب میں ابن عمر رضی الله عنہما سے بھی روایت ہے، ۴- ابن عمر رضی الله عنہما سے مروی ہے کہ نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سفر میں نہ نماز سے پہلے نفل پڑھتے تھے اور نہ اس کے بعد ۲؎، ۵- اور ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما ہی سے مروی ہے وہ نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے روایت کرتے ہیں کہ آپ سفر میں نفل پڑھتے تھے ۳؎، ۶- پھر نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے بعد اہل علم میں اختلاف ہو گیا، بعض صحابہ کرام کی رائے ہوئی کہ آدمی نفل پڑھے، یہی احمد اور اسحاق بن راہویہ بھی کہتے ہیں، ۷- اہل علم کے ایک گروہ کی رائے نہ نماز سے پہلے کوئی نفل پڑھنے کی ہے اور نہ نماز کے بعد۔ سفر میں جو لوگ نفل نہیں پڑھتے ہیں ان کا مقصود رخصت کو قبول کرنا ہے اور جو نفل پڑھے تو اس کی بڑی فضیلت ہے۔ یہی اکثر اہل علم کا قول ہے وہ سفر میں نفل پڑھنے کو پسند کرتے ہیں ۴؎۔

English Translation

Al-Bara bin Azib said: I accompanied the Messenger of Allah on eighteen journeys, and I did not see him leave the two Rak'ah when the sun waned before Zuhr.
