حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ أَبِي حَازِمٍ ، عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ السَّاعِدِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَلَغَهُ أَنَّ بَنِي عَمْرِو بْنِ عَوْفٍ كَانَ بَيْنَهُمْ شَيْءٌ ، فَخَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصْلِحُ بَيْنَهُمْ فِي أُنَاسٍ مَعَهُ ، فَحُبِسَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَحَانَتِ الصَّلَاةُ ، فَجَاءَ بِلَالٌ إِلَى أَبِي بَكْرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ فَقَالَ : يَا أَبَا بَكْرٍ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَدْ حُبِسَ وَقَدْ حَانَتِ الصَّلَاةُ ، فَهَلْ لَكَ أَنْ تَؤُمَّ النَّاسَ ؟ قَالَ : نَعَمْ ، إِنْ شِئْتَ ، فَأَقَامَ بِلَالٌ وَتَقَدَّمَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ فَكَبَّرَ لِلنَّاسِ وَجَاءَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَمْشِي فِي الصُّفُوفِ حَتَّى قَامَ فِي الصَّفِّ فَأَخَذَ النَّاسُ فِي التَّصْفِيقِ ، وَكَانَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ لَا يَلْتَفِتُ فِي صَلَاتِهِ ، فَلَمَّا أَكْثَرَ النَّاسُ الْتَفَتَ فَإِذَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَشَارَ إِلَيْهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَأْمُرُهُ أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ فَرَفَعَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ يَدَيْهِ فَحَمِدَ اللَّهَ ، وَرَجَعَ الْقَهْقَرَى وَرَاءَهُ حَتَّى قَامَ فِي الصَّفِّ ، فَتَقَدَّمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَصَلَّى لِلنَّاسِ ، فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ أَقْبَلَ عَلَى النَّاسِ , فَقَالَ : يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ مَا لَكُمْ حِينَ نَابَكُمْ شَيْءٌ فِي الصَّلَاةِ أَخَذْتُمْ فِي التَّصْفِيقِ إِنَّمَا التَّصْفِيقُ لِلنِّسَاءِ ، مَنْ نَابَهُ شَيْءٌ فِي صَلَاتِهِ فَلْيَقُلْ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ فَإِنَّهُ لَا يَسْمَعُهُ أَحَدٌ حِينَ يَقُولُ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ ، إِلَّا الْتَفَتَ يَا أَبَا بَكْرٍ ، مَا مَنَعَكَ أَنْ تُصَلِّيَ لِلنَّاسِ حِينَ أَشَرْتُ إِلَيْكَ ؟ , فَقَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ : مَا كَانَ يَنْبَغِي لِابْنِ أَبِي قُحَافَةَ أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ بَيْنَ يَدَيْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ .

Urdu Translation

ہم سے قتیبہ بن سعید نے بیان کیا، انہوں نے کہا کہ ہم سے یعقوب بن عبدالرحمٰن نے بیان کیا، ان سے ابوحازم سلمہ بن دینار نے، ان سے سہل بن سعد ساعدی رضی اللہ عنہ نے بیان کیا کہ   رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو خبر پہنچی کہ بنی عمرو بن عوف کے لوگوں میں باہم کوئی جھگڑا پیدا ہو گیا ہے تو آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم چند صحابہ رضوان اللہ علیہم اجمعین کے ساتھ ملاپ کرانے کے لیے وہاں تشریف لے گئے۔ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ابھی مشغول ہی تھے کہ نماز کا وقت ہو گیا۔ اس لیے بلال رضی اللہ عنہ نے ابوبکر رضی اللہ عنہ سے کہا کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ابھی تک تشریف نہیں لائے۔ ادھر نماز کا وقت ہو گیا ہے۔ کیا آپ لوگوں کی امامت کریں گے؟ انہوں نے کہا کہ ہاں اگر تم چاہو۔ چنانچہ بلال رضی اللہ عنہ نے تکبیر کہی اور ابوبکر رضی اللہ عنہ نے آگے بڑھ کر تکبیر ( تحریمہ ) کہی۔ اتنے میں رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم بھی صفوں سے گزرتے ہوئے پہلی صف میں آ کر کھڑے ہو گئے۔ لوگوں نے ( ابوبکر رضی اللہ عنہ کو آگاہ کرنے کے لیے ) ہاتھ پر ہاتھ بجانے شروع کر دیئے لیکن ابوبکر رضی اللہ عنہ نماز میں کسی طرف دھیان نہیں دیا کرتے تھے۔ جب لوگوں نے بہت تالیاں بجائیں تو آپ متوجہ ہوئے اور کیا دیکھتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کھڑے ہیں۔ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے اشارہ سے انہیں نماز پڑھاتے رہنے کے لیے کہا، اس پر ابوبکر رضی اللہ عنہ نے ہاتھ اٹھا کر اللہ تعالیٰ کا شکر ادا کیا اور الٹے پاؤں پیچھے کی طرف آ کر صف میں کھڑے ہو گئے پھر رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے آگے بڑھ کر نماز پڑھائی۔ نماز کے بعد آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا۔ لوگو! نماز میں ایک امر پیش آیا تو تم لوگ ہاتھ پر ہاتھ کیوں مارنے لگے تھے، یہ دستک دینا تو صرف عورتوں کے لیے ہے۔ جس کو نماز میں کوئی حادثہ پیش آئے تو «سبحان الله» کہے کیونکہ جب بھی کوئی «سبحان الله» سنے گا وہ ادھر خیال کرے گا اور اے ابوبکر! میرے اشارے کے باوجود تم لوگوں کو نماز کیوں نہیں پڑھاتے رہے؟ ابوبکر رضی اللہ عنہ نے عرض کیا کہ بھلا ابوقحافہ کے بیٹے کی کیا مجال تھی کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے آگے نماز پڑھائے۔

English Translation

Narrated Sahl bin Sa`d As-Sa`idi: The news about the differences amongst the people of Bani `Amr bin `Auf reached Allah's Apostle and so he went to them along with some of his companions to effect a reconciliation between them. Allah's Apostle was delayed there, and the time of the prayer was due. Bilal went to Abu Bakr and said to him, Allah's Apostle has been delayed (there) and the time of prayer is due. So will you lead the people in prayer? Abu Bakr said, Yes, if you wish. Bilal pronounced the Iqama and Abu Bakr, went forward and said Takbir for the people. In the meantime Allah's Apostle came crossing the rows (of the praying people) and stood in the (first) row and the people started clapping. Abu Bakr, would never glance sideways in his prayer but when the people clapped much he looked back and (saw) Allah's Apostle . Allah's Apostle beckoned him to carry on the prayer. Abu Bakr raised his hands and thanked Allah, and retreated till he reached the (first) row. Allah's Apostle went forward and led the people in the prayer. When he completed the prayer he faced the people and said, O people! Why did you start clapping when something unusual happened to you in the prayer? Clapping is only for women. So whoever amongst you comes across something in the prayer should say, 'Subhan-Allah' for there is none who will not turn round on hearing him saying Subhan-Allah. O Abu Bakr! What prevented you from leading the people in the prayer when I beckoned you to do so? Abu Bakr replied, How dare the son of Abu Quhafa lead the prayer in the presence of Allah's Apostle ?
