Baab Kheeti Bari Aur Bitai Ka Bayan

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُقَاتِلٍ ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ ، أَخْبَرَنَا الْأَوْزَاعِيُّ ، عَنْ أَبِي النَّجَاشِيِّ مَوْلَى رَافِعِ بْنِ خَدِيجٍ ، سَمِعْتُ رَافِعَ بْنَ خَدِيجِ بْنِ رَافِعٍ ، عَنْ عَمِّهِ ظُهَيْرِ بْنِ رَافِعٍ ، قَالَ ظُهَيْرٌ : لَقَدْ نَهَانَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ أَمْرٍ كَانَ بِنَا رَافِقًا ، قُلْتُ : مَا قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَهُوَ حَقٌّ ، قَالَ : دَعَانِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : مَا تَصْنَعُونَ بِمَحَاقِلِكُمْ ؟ قُلْتُ : نُؤَاجِرُهَا عَلَى الرُّبُعِ ، وَعَلَى الْأَوْسُقِ مِنَ التَّمْرِ وَالشَّعِيرِ ، قَالَ : لَا تَفْعَلُوا ، ازْرَعُوهَا أَوْ أَزْرِعُوهَا أَوْ أَمْسِكُوهَا . قَالَ رَافِعٌ : قُلْتُ : سَمْعًا وَطَاعَةً .

Urdu Translation

ہم سے محمد بن مقاتل نے بیان کیا، کہا کہ ہم کو عبداللہ بن مبارک نے خبر دی، انہیں امام اوزاعی نے خبر دی، انہیں رافع بن خدیج رضی اللہ عنہ کے غلام ابونجاشی نے، انہوں نے رافع بن خدیج بن رافع رضی اللہ عنہ سے سنا، اور انہوں نے اپنے چچا ظہیر بن رافع رضی اللہ عنہ سے، ظہیر رضی اللہ عنہ نے بیان کیا کہ   نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ہمیں ایک ایسے کام سے منع کیا تھا جس میں ہمارا ( بظاہر ذاتی ) فائدہ تھا۔ اس پر میں نے کہا کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے جو کچھ بھی فرمایا وہ حق ہے۔ ظہیر رضی اللہ عنہ نے بیان کیا کہ مجھے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے بلایا اور دریافت فرمایا کہ تم لوگ اپنے کھیتوں کا معاملہ کس طرح کرتے ہو؟ میں نے کہا کہ ہم اپنے کھیتوں کو ( بونے کے لیے ) نہر کے قریب کی زمین کی شرط پر دے دیتے ہیں۔ اسی طرح کھجور اور جَو کے چند وسق پر۔ یہ سن کر آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا کہ ایسا نہ کرو۔ یا خود اس میں کھیتی کیا کرو یا دوسروں سے کراؤ۔ ورنہ اسے یوں خالی ہی چھوڑ دو۔ رافع رضی اللہ عنہ نے بیان کیا کہ میں نے کہا ( آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کا یہ فرمان ) میں نے سنا اور مان لیا۔

English Translation

Narrated Rafi` bin Khadij: My uncle Zuhair said, Allah's Apostle forbade us to do a thing which was a source of help to us. I said, Whatever Allah's Apostle said was right. He said, Allah's Apostle sent for me and asked, 'What are you doing with your farms?' I replied, 'We give our farms on rent on the basis that we get the yield produced at the banks of the water streams (rivers) for the rent, or rent it for some Wasqs of barley and dates.' Allah's Apostle said, 'Do not do so, but cultivate (the land) yourselves or let it be cultivated by others gratis, or keep it uncultivated.' I said, 'We hear and obey.'
