Narrated Ibn `Abbas: The Prophet said, The bad example is not for us. He who takes back his present is like a dog that swallows back its vomit.

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَارِثِ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَيُّوبُ ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا ، قَالَ : قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : لَيْسَ لَنَا مَثَلُ السَّوْءِ الَّذِي يَعُودُ فِي هِبَتِهِ ، كَالْكَلْبِ يَرْجِعُ فِي قَيْئِهِ .

ہم سے عبدالرحمٰن بن مبارک نے بیان کیا، کہا ہم سے عبدالوارث نے بیان کیا، کہا کہ ہم سے ایوب نے بیان کیا عکرمہ سے اور ان سے عبداللہ بن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما نے بیان کیا کہ   نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا ”ہم مسلمانوں کو بری مثال نہ اختیار کرنی چاہئے۔ اس شخص کی سی جو اپنا دیا ہوا ہدیہ واپس لے لے، وہ اس کتے کی طرح ہے جو اپنی قے خود چاٹتا ہے۔“
