حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سُوقَةَ ، عَنْ مُنْذِرٍ ، عَنْ ابْنِ الْحَنَفِيَّةِ ، قَالَ : لَوْ كَانَ عَلِيٌّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ذَاكِرًا عُثْمَانَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ذَكَرَهُ يَوْمَ جَاءَهُ نَاسٌ فَشَكَوْا سُعَاةَ عُثْمَانَ ، فَقَالَ لِي عَلِيٌّ : اذْهَبْ إِلَى عُثْمَانَ ، فَأَخْبِرْهُ أَنَّهَا صَدَقَةُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَمُرْ سُعَاتَكَ يَعْمَلُونَ فِيهَا فَأَتَيْتُهُ بِهَا ، فَقَالَ : أَغْنِهَا عَنَّا ، فَأَتَيْتُ بِهَا عَلِيًّا فَأَخْبَرْتُهُ ، فَقَالَ : ضَعْهَا حَيْثُ أَخَذْتَهَا ،

Urdu Translation

ہم سے قتیبہ بن سعید نے بیان کیا ‘ کہا ہم سے سفیان بن عیینہ نے بیان کیا ‘ ان سے محمد بن سوقہ نے ‘ ان سے منذر بن یعلیٰ نے اور ان سے محمد بن حنفیہ نے ‘ انہوں نے کہا کہ   اگر علی رضی اللہ عنہ، عثمان رضی اللہ عنہ کو برا کہنے والے ہوتے تو اس دن ہوتے جب کچھ لوگ عثمان رضی اللہ عنہ کے عاملوں کی ( جو زکوٰۃ وصول کرتے تھے ) شکایت کرنے ان کے پاس آئے۔ انہوں نے مجھ سے کہا عثمان رضی اللہ عنہ کے پاس جا اور یہ زکوٰۃ کا پروانہ لے جا۔ ان سے کہنا کہ یہ پروانہ آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کا لکھوایا ہوا ہے۔ تم اپنے عاملوں کو حکم دو کہ وہ اسی کے مطابق عمل کریں۔ چنانچہ میں اسے لے کر عثمان رضی اللہ عنہ کی خدمت میں حاضر ہوا اور انہیں پیغام پہنچا دیا ‘ لیکن انہوں نے فرمایا کہ ہمیں اس کی کوئی ضرورت نہیں ( کیونکہ ہمارے پاس اس کی نقل موجود ہے ) میں نے جا کر علی رضی اللہ عنہ سے یہ واقعہ بیان کیا ‘ تو انہوں نے فرمایا کہ اچھا ‘ پھر اس پروانے کو جہاں سے اٹھایا ہے وہیں رکھ دو۔

English Translation

Narrated Ibn Al-Hanafiya: If `Ali had spoken anything bad about `Uthman then he would have mentioned the day when some persons came to him and complained about the Zakat officials of `Uthman. `Ali then said to me, Go to `Uthman and say to him, 'This document contains the regulations of spending the Sadaqa of Allah's Apostle so order your Zakat officials to act accordingly. I took the document to `Uthman. `Uthman said, Take it away, for we are not in need of it. I returned to `Ali with it and informed him of that. He said, Put it whence you took it.
